CAN President Oritsejafor, Asks Jonathan, Others to Donate Half of Their Salaries to the Poor

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ayo Oritsejafor has called on President Goodluck Jonathan and other elected and appointed public office holders to give half of their salaries for one year to unemployed youths.

Oritsejafor, who made the call at the National Christian Centre in Abuja yesterday during the 53rd Independence Anniversary Interdenominational Church Service, said this would build confidence in the country.

“The unemployment situation is bad. The situation is critical. People are jobless. I want to make a suggestion; and in making the suggestion, I want to look up to the heaven, that probably if all political office holders, both elected and appointed, will give half of their salaries for one year and put it in a dedicated account for the poor and let men and women of integrity run that account, it will build confidence in the society,” he said.

He also identified what he called terrible demonic sacrifices allegedly made by some people for wealth, political and spiritual powers as one of the nation’s problems.

Oritsejafor, who announced the presence in the church of some of the victims of the Boko Haram insurgency, said about 10,000 Nigerian refugees, driven out of their country by what he described as “mad men” are currently in Cameroon.

He commended the efforts of security agencies and asked them to continue to collaborate to fight terrorism.

Oritsejafor also commended the efforts of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno State describing it a bold step and urging northern leaders to do more to contain terrorism.

On the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), he urged the union and the Federal Government to shift their grounds to end the strike saying the Christian community, if allowed, is ready to “midwife” a solution to the dispute.

  5. That is a very wise suggestion pastor ayo oritsejafor and most probably, let the money donated be delivered to the poor through your humble office. What a merchants in the names of religion leaders, shameless man!

  6. Why donate part of their salaries? Why not advice them to create jobs? Teach a man how to fish don't give him fish when ever he is hungry.

  7. Sell your own private jet and give to the unemployed before asking others to do it.

  8. I also expect you to advise the religious leaders to donate 50% their wealth to the unemployed youth.

  9. A good idea, because more than half of their salaries can not be justified as what they should honestly earn. But Sir, i think you should lead the way in showing a good example for them to follow. Why dont you start by selling your private jet, and then challenge Jonathan and his chop and quench cabinet to try and out shine you.

  11. They can't do that, cos they don't have the love of this Nation in there heart. They don't have love for the poor or for the less privilege. They are there to loot and run the country down..

  12. Pls CAN. President. Can u also sell your jet and donate the money to the poor

  13. That indeed will be a good idea because the incredible salaries of people in government positions cannot be justified. But Sir, dont you think you should lead the way by showing a good example. Start by selling your private jet and use the proceeds to feed the poor. Then, throw a challenge to public office holders to try and outshine you, starting from the president.

  16. True talk. Pastor you have to lead by showing example. Sell & advice other Bishops ,G.O & Pastors to sell their jets. Looking at the amount u pay for parking your jets daily at the airport will feed the poor & stop collecting from the poor to enrich yourself & taking from corrupt leaders. God is watching you.Jeremiah 23,Isaiah 3:11-15; 9:13-17; 10:1-4 .You do err,not knowing the escritores, nor the power of God. Matthew18:3-4

  20. Very good suggestion sir. But what is 50% of their salaries? Majority of them are there not for salaries. How many of them is earning N1m and above officially every month? Tell them to privately confess the truth to God, then drop 10% of their EARNED INCOME to the poor every month and see what you will get. Seems that Nigerians don't trust you to talk on their behalf because they feel that you are one of them and the politicians, in fact, bought your jet for you. That is life sir. Members of the congregation are getting leaner while the pastor is getting fatter.
