Aviation Enemies, Bullet Proof Cars, And Stella Oduah’s Stupidity

The stench of arrogance, lies, deceit and corruption in the government of President Goodluck Jonathan oozes that no amount of image-laundering cologne will cure. Loyalists and aides never forget to remind us that Mr. Jonathan is a good man, a gentleman, a respecter of rule of law, God-sent leader, bla bla. But why would a man with such wonderful attributes that would make Basir Al-Assad commit suicide, continue to flirt around terrible individuals? Do I perceive a case of rewarding undiluted loyalty or unequaled friendship?I am very amazed.
In those days, questionable characters in whatever arm of government possess a bit of decorum. Many of them, albeit renowned brigands stole with a measure of sympathy. They looted in a way only their family members, concubines, close staff and associates found out. The masses were kept in the dark, at least most of the time. Fast forward to 2013, all sectors, including the ever-green GRAFT, have undergone huge transformation, robust growth and tremendous development, which are visible to every Nigerian at home and in the Diaspora.
Not-minding the earlier crashes and near-crashes witnessed under her tenure, the country’s Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi, thought it wise or was (wrongly) advised to forestall any fatality by muzzling out a personal security vote from parastatals saddled with the responsibility of ensuring both personal security and collective safety of millions of travelers flying the nation’s airspace! More appalling, is the fact that the latest scandal for which she has been indicted occurred only a month before the recent Associated Airlines accident that killed, sorry, re-killed a former governor and 14 others.
That our oyinbo-accent sister, daughter, wife and mother, needs more protection than her boss, President Jonathan, is not in any way an acceptable argument; that one requires two cars worth $1.6m (N255 million) to effectively discharge official duties is ridiculous; that a government official finds it not abnormal to order agencies under her watch to cough out a quarter of a billion is shameful; that we had to hear the gist from the media further shows the level of insecurity and cover-up in governance; that the accused is still comfortable being the occupier of the office is a confirmation that integrity is no longer a watchword for service; that the President may not find this scandal enough reason to give the Minister the boot is even ridiculous and is paining me to the marrow!
Justifying the purchase, Joe Obi, the Minister’s media assistant, stated that his principal inherited a lot of baggage in terms of the terms of concessions and lease agreements which were not in the interest of the government and people of Nigeria. To this end, according to him, adequate security cannot be handled with kid gloves. I ask: Why did it take more than two years after her swearing-in (July 2, 2011) to realize the urgency of self-protection from “imminent threat”?
For Ms. Oduah's information, it is not only her ministry supposed enemies of the state are targeting. The Ministries of Finance and Agriculture are also on the radar of the bad guys; probably under more threat when compared to hers. She must be stupid to think that her confirmation that she requested the purchase of the automobiles portray her as sincere person. No ma’m, there is absolutely nothing to explain; records, receipts, documents and statements from aggrieved personnel gave you away already.
Federal Government freaks out when opposition leaders, organized Labour, commentators and activists applaud the Academic Staff of Universities Union (ASUU) for sustaining the ongoing action. But from the picture its reckless officials paint, isn’t it clear that contrary to the “we cannot afford your demands” claim, the country can in fact fulfill the contentious 2009 agreement? The striking lecturers are no idiots; they see, hear and read about the countless financial mismanagement and wastage by the same people who claim no money!
In their tiny brain of illusion, our leaders think that they are smooth, sleek and smart. The sad part, however, is that a number of them are not only fools, but are living in fools’ paradise yet they know not. I mean if they are as brilliant as on paper, how is it possible that less-educated people catch them by the wrist? How is it possible that despite diversionary tactics, their secrets blow open eventually?
Ms. Oduah was bold to single-handedly spend N255million of our collective wealth in a frivolous manner and then say it is for the use of the establishment. Going by the outcry trailing the purchase, what if her successor decides to do without the “utility vehicles”? In a clime where voodooism is still in high practice, the next Minister could reject the cars for fear that Ms. Oduah’s traducers have cast a spell on the fortified BMW 760s.
As we’ve all seen, heavy cosmetic make-up can only cover the spots, blemishes and wrinkles our faces, it does not (and will never) do the magic on dishonesty, crass attitude, shady deals and corrupt tendencies. The President will do himself, his government and the nation a world of good by dropping this woman from his cabinet. I am counting on the hope that he will do this without further delay. I would not bet on it though.

It is a shame. 255m can create a whole lot of employment or improi ve structures In the ministry. I think she should go
ReplyDeleteYou think?
ReplyDeleteThe woman (and her boss) is a murdering criminal. She should be tried and hanged.
Gifts for another of Jona's "girlfriends" after the Petroleum minister.....
The President should resign and take all these mentally poor people along with him. Like u rightly said they still with such audacity that I wonder. Please I have had enough. Its high time we said no to all these things. I don't like reading this kind of news because it only breaks my heart. We deserve better. 225million!!! That's outrageous. Another occupy nigeria is what we need. A more serious one. We need a change.
ReplyDeleteMany businesses in VI Lekki and nation wide that are strving with numbers of emplyees dont have such s total busiess worth. how much more will be added to complete what ASSU is asking for. Andmark you before this wanton waste was approved o you know how much would have been voted to other criminally minded officials like Madam? with all that have been embezled in the nation wide renovation of our Airports with subsandard materials and questionable contractors Anti decided to finish us with this act of advance corruption. These are all square pegs in round holes. All of them. starting from Mr P.
ReplyDeleteWell spoken. Because she is paranoid she thinks people are out to get her. I commend you Mr Wale.. A word they say is enough for the wise. Hope he hears.
ReplyDeleteNothing is wrong for the ministry to purchase bullet proof car for the ministerial work as to protect her from the likes of you Odunsi, Fani-kayode and your Boko Haram. Your attacks on her has gone to far beyond politics to personal. So I feel she needs to protect herself. The investigation reports emerging shows the Aviation Minister did not cause the crash and had nothing to do with it. Why are yorubas on her neck. When plane crashes took place during OBJ administration none of you called for the head of the OBJ nor the then Minister. Unrepentant tribalists who cannot remove Logs in theirs eyes both worries about a piece of sand in other persons' eyes.
ReplyDeleteRoads, Schools, Health Care, this money could have made a tremendous difference.
ReplyDeleteSadly the people no longer matter, Goodluck Jonathan dont use the dangerous roads since his mother inlaw was killed in a road accident, He fly's over them in one of his two private Helicopters, why has he accrued 11 private jets.
These are used to run errands, and provide a free taxi service to all his cronies and hangers on.
Mr. President,
ReplyDeleteCan your Excellency please sell the two BMW cars that NCAA bought for Madam Stella Oduah and use it to complete the money ASUU is asking the FG for?
Since you are fighting corruption, please remember to fire her for using a 1/4 of a N1 Billion to buy two cars...
Iranseoluwa
Aparently shz scared for her life.bt since d security personels assigned to her can't gurantee her safety, she shud also demand 4a new bullet proof office,n bullent proof residential qtrs too.shud every Nigerian minister be allowed such Frivolous spendings cos d raised an alarm of insecurity.where re we headed Nigerians?d decay caused by inconsiderate govt officials is rather alarming.wat legacy re we leaving for our young ones.nigeria cn nt bcome a beta state if we dnt make some sacrifices.n it starts wit u n me.MARC DERBY.
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous 0827 hrs....I pray you will not be involved in any plane crash before you will see the need to strengthens the NCAA instead of protecting the Minister! she may be your sister but let us look at issues logically and reasonably before playing tribal sentiments and politics...you may have read that Most of the staff involved in plane certification has not been trained for 3 years! now tell me, how can they be trained when a selfish minister is spending 157 Million to protect herself? God save Nigeria!
ReplyDeleteTo the anonymous supporter of the minister. Thank you and well done, but my prayer for you is that during her tenure, one or two of your loved ones will travel by air and experience a fatal crash. Then if you can come back and repeat those statements, you will be greatly honored.
ReplyDelete@Fred. What you wish others will happen to you. You are a wicked soul. What is wrong in someone having an opinion different from yours? You will do worse than Stella Oduah if given the opportunity. I shake my head for you.
Deleteit is all greed, how can she demand for stupid things like cars, this so called lady can never and never be removed..she was amongst the highest donor during Jonathan's campaign. She dine and wine within the corridors of power, she big..she got oil blocks during the babangida/abacha time, she owns SPG oil and gas, she has fleets of cars, houses scattered all over Lekki, Ikoyi, VI...and massive mansion in VGC, what else does she wants in life, she got all these because of her might at the Federal at the expense of the general public, and some stupid illiterates will come to defend her, if she were my sister i would have disowned her ever since, her village does not have pipe borne water...so many to say, but....
ReplyDeleteTo Anonymous @1:12 PM.
ReplyDeleteI'M IGBO, BUT CAN'T FIND MYSELF SUPPORTING THIS UNBELIEVABLY STUPID & SELF-CENTERED BITCH.
PEOPLE HAVE DIED MAN, UNDER HER WATCH AND ALL SHE CAN SAY IS THAT IT WAS "AN ACT OF GOD" THEN RUNS OVER TO BUY N255 MILLION LUXURY CARS TO PROTECT HER GREEDY ASS.
AND SHE DOESN'T CARE. ITS ALL ABOUT "MY ENTITLEMENT".
MAY GOD FORGIVE YOU SON - YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND PROBABLY BECAUSE YOU HAVE NEVER LOST A LOVED ONE IN AN AIR CRASH DISASTER.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT TRIBAL SENTIMENTS, DUMMY. ITS ABOUT JUSTICE FOR THE BEREAVED AND THE LOST.
STELLA WILL BURN FOR HER CRIMES, MIND YOU. THE BITCH HAS TO. THE GHOSTS OF THE DEAD DEMAND IT.
To all of you insulting the Minister and the unbiased minds who see things differently..........
ReplyDelete-- Stella could not have been the cause of the accidents. Unfortunately this happened before and now again. We all need to pray to God to stop the wicked events going on in the country not just in aviation everywhere, including Boko Haram souls are daily lost which is very bad. I am against finger pointing because, the minister does not do everything in the aviation so should not be killed for the ugly events. If your approach of insults, castigation and calling for her head was the way forward. And ff you guys including Odunsi, Kayode were not tribalists and bigots, I wonder why you did not call for the removal of former Minister of Defence (before he was sacked) and Minster of Police Affair who happened to come Yoruba, considering the killings and atrocities caused by Boko Haram and other armed groups in the country. It is not about having the loudest mouth through press media, but about the reality, truth and moving the country. It is not about pointing the piece in the others eye, but not seeing the Log in your own eyes. The culture of insult and attack on anyone found not in agreement with your opinion is one big problem hindering the peace, unity and progress of this nation. This culture is deeply embedded here in the west. It is a tradition of supporting my own even if he / she is wrong, but condemn others even if he /she is right or wrong as long as he/she is not one of us or not in our team or does not share our opinion/belief.
You can see, how you guys attacked others whose opinions appeared differently in this issue of security car purchase. You have subjected them to all manners of name calling, insults and aspersions on them and their perceived tribe. Simply because, they said Oduah should not be crucified, she deserves her safety and security. And if bullet proof car will do that, then is okay.
The truth is, there is serious corruption everywhere in the country, even with the Airline operators, a situation where an Aircraft is being repaired and has not being certified and cleared to fly, would go to bribe the inspection agency (NCAA) to allow it fly. If at last an incident happens who will be blamed. In such a case, how will the minister know what transpired between the Air line and the Agency? Some said the Associates plane was undergoing repairs and the flight was used as test run. Another report quoted one of the survivors as saying that he discovered a crack while onboard the plane. If there is any truth in any of these, then the question is how was this plane released to fly (the Associates onwers and NCAA (inspectors/engineers) need to clarify this. The Minister cannot do everyone's job. Period.
For those calling others illiterates because you'r opinions or sentiments were not supported by them, it is most unfortunate that a forum like this will allow your kind of write-up be published. You are immature to be here, your words portray the fact that you're the true illiterates. Speak your opinion, not be personal, allow others too space to air. Everbody must not support you.
For the one (Fred) wishing people accidents. Even if you are the witch or wizard or demon or the principality causing all the accidents and bloodletting in the country. Your spell, incantation, charm, inchantment and divination shall not stand. He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it. They shall backfire to you, in Jesus Name. Amen.
And may Almighty God intervene and stop the ongoing sad events in the country, in Jesus name. Amen.
You must be a bigger fool, than those in who's support you are writting. Are u saying it is right for someone to make a generalized comment about a whole tribe calling them unrepentant tribalist because they are bold enough to speak out their mind. And you are the same imbercile supporting a commentator who spoke out his mind.
