The All Progressive Congress on Sunday described the alleged plot to force Governor Rotimi Amaechi to resign, as a ‘’last desperate act’’ to frustrate him out of office.
The APC in a statement by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, also condemned the reported plot to abduct and blackmail the governor.
Mohammed noted that the alleged plot, which was exposed by the Rivers Peoples Forum, should be taken seriously, against the background of a similar occurrence in the past and the outcry by Amaechi that his life was in danger.
The APC spokesperson said, “Anyone who thinks this alarm by the Rivers Peoples Forum is outlandish should remember what happened to the then Anambra State governor Chris Ngige, who was abducted and rough-handled in 2003 in what is undoubtedly the most egregious violation of democratic institutions in our country’s history.”
He said the instigators and perpetrators of the crisis in Rivers were keenly aware that they were running out of options.
He said, “Their impeachment plan has been foiled by the take over of the legislative functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly’s functions by the the National Assembly, while their plan to declare a state of emergency in the state had also failed, against the lack of support for such act by the National Assembly.
“This is the reason for this last desperate act by an increasingly-desperate Presidency, which may not exclude a final solution.
“We are therefore, for the umpteenth time, calling on civil society and human rights organisations, opinion leaders and indeed all lovers of democracy and believers in constitutional rule to intervene to stop the runaway culture of impunity in Rivers State.”
The APC added that it was instructive that a day after the Rivers Peoples Forum exposed the plot against Amaechi, the PDP chairman in Rivers, Mr. Felix Obuah, allegedly called a press conference where he accused the governor of ‘’insulting and dragging the names of President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience to the mud.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

ReplyDeleteFelix Obua, nwike, Jonathan and Patience should allow Gov. Amaechi to complete his tenure. They can then put tugs like asari etc in Rivers state government afterwards.

ReplyDeleteAPC supports Amechi in his plan to unseat Jonathan, but against Jonathan fighting back. Highest level of hypocrisy which APC and his supporters are known for. Amechi asked for it, he is getting it. Amechi declared war collaborating with enemies against his party leadership. Where were they during OBJ time, when he only decides everything in PDP. Anyone who challenged him was given brutal booth. You cannot count the number of seats nor times people were changed or removed in different positions in PDP no matter who/what they were. ACN and CPC were doing or saying nothing.
ReplyDeleteYou expects Jonathan to fold his hands till APC and Rebel 7 use Amechi to unseat him. GEJ is only humble and a democrat, but he is not a fool. If you APC/ Lai) are on his shoes you will do worse. I hope the likes of Oshiomole and Okorocha are learning their lessons. These guys are the black sheep of the family, is not as if they have any good intentions for their people but only seeking their personal political aggrandizement. Amechi for VP in PDP, Okorocha VP in APC (but he has been denied by the West, another reminder of deception in APC, a sign of tilted/biase and greedy interest of the leadership of APC), Oshiomole for the Senate President, wow.
APC or PDP, east or west ,north or south ,Jonathan has right to contest in 2015 so also every other Nigerians including Amaechi. Enof of Victimisation
