Seven pilgrims from Zamfara State, who were returning from this year’s hajj exercise, lost their lives few hours after arriving the country.
The deceased, who were indigenes of Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the state, died when the vehicle conveying them from the InternationalAirport, Sokoto, ran into a ditch after the driver lost control.
According to Lawal Garba, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Service Commission, FRSC, Sokoto State Command, survivors of the accident are currently receiving medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.
According to Lawal, who officially confirmed the death of the returning pilgrims, investigation is on to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Also speaking on the issue, the Registration Officer of Bukkuyum Local Government, Mallam Ibrahim Nasarawa, revealed that the accident happened along Sokoto-Gusau Road.
He said: “The pilgrims, who also happened to be the second batch to be airlifted from Saudi Arabia after the conclusion of hajj, were hearty and healthy.
