WORLD CUP QUALIFIER: Nigeria to play Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ethiopia or Senegal.

Nigeria are one of the five top seeds for next week’s draw for the final World Cup playoffs after they ranked in the top five African teams still in the competition, and they are to play any of
Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ethiopia and Senegal in a two-legged affair to determine which country goes to Brazil 2014.

The African champions are ranked fourth best team in Africa in the latest FIFA Rankings released yesterday by the world football governing body.

They have recorded 707 points and dropped to 36th place on the global ranking.

Cote d’Ivoire remain the top African team as they are the 18th best team in the world, while Ghana are second as they are rated 24th in the world.

Mali are fifth best African team as they are 38th, but unfortunately they did not qualify for the final playoffs.

Following the disqualification of 44th ranked Cape Verde for using an ineligible player against Tunisia in their final qualifier, Tunisia, who are 46th, are thus the fifth and last top seed as they are ranked higher than the likes of Cameroon and Burkina Faso in the world.

The second pot for Monday’s draw will therefore be Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ethiopia and Senegal.

So, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ethiopia and Senegal, which of these countries do you think will be the easiest for Nigeria to make Brazil 2014?

  1. None of dem would be easy. If Tunisia, a seeded team got there thru disqualification of Cape Verde, den not even Ethiopia or Burkina babe would be an easy opponent. We shld just be prepared to take on anyone, beat dem n qualify proper. Also, we have d luxury of d 2nd leg@home if I get my facts right.

  2. Does it mean Nigeria won the nations cup miraculously. This so called FIFA ranking is nothing to me. FIFa are just looking @ individual players in a team and not the team play. Imagine ivory coast and Ghana with all their players could not lift the nations cup for two decades now yet they are african best two teams while Nigeria that just won it is ranked behind them. My question is what is FIFA mode of ranking in african football?
