Mr President faced an impromptu interview on the streets of New York, a female reporter for Sahara TV bumped into him while he was taking a walk with his entourage on the streets of New York, USA
Many will have thought Mr Jonathan was going to flop going by his previous exploits of unexpected interviews, and questions asked, but apart from the poor response to the Boko Haram question, Mr President managed to handle the short interview very well.
Perharps the president should grant more interviews while strolling on the streets of Wuse, Ikoyi, Kano or Calabar where he wouldn't have to utter scripted lines by Abati and the likes.
When the reporter asked Mr President about what his government was doing about the Boko Haram menace -
Mr President, this is Sahara TV, What exactly are you doing to help to stop Boko Haram? We know you have declared a state of emergency and all that.
"we are working very hard on that", Jonathan said...
How exactly sir?:...Mr President repeats "We are working very hard"
And 3000 people have died?
"Maybe you need to update her statistics" Mr President replied. . .
Perhaps the president should learn from his Kenyan counterpart on how to address firmly the issue of terrorism in a country?Towards the end of the short interview, the president's entourage mumured and asked the female reporters to stop asking questions, although the president was willing to answer them.
'He is our president, it's okay if he talks to us, thank you very much' the reporter replies them.Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Good journalistic approach. I love the boldness of Sahara reporters but I think the reporter broke security protocols, it could get the guards fired.Kudos
ReplyDelete"Maybe you need to update her statistics"? YOUR statistics not HER statistics. You can't even quote rightly.
ReplyDeleteHe meant his aides should update her! Come on give Mr President a break! Nigerians don't seem to have any etiquette on social media!
ReplyDeleteHe obviously meant his aides should update her!! Nigerians don't know how to use social media construtively!
ReplyDeleteWell done Mr PRESIDENT.
ReplyDeleteI’m impressed with Mr. President's response; he has proven his critics wrong again by answering those questions professionally...Thumbs up!
ReplyDeleteI also think he handled the impromptu interview well enough... on issues of Terrorism you don't give details of your battle plan; saying the Govt is working on it is good enough... and the sovereign fund issue to was well answered... Good comments; good journalism
ReplyDeleteHow has Mr President addressed any of the questions posed to him?? His resposes were as evasive as ever. Does he even have the statistics right himself? Why didnt he update the jounalist if he had the information at hand? He doesnt appear to care about the number of deaths recorded everyday in Nigeria, as long as the numbers in respect of his bank accounts and assets keep growing. Call it whatever, but Nigerians have a problem with being upfront about addressing issues the way they really are. Why do we get satisfied with being fed with crumbs in a land flowing with milk and honey like Nigeria?
