AILING Taraba State Governor Danbaba Suntai has accused his deputy, Alhaji Garba Umar, of betrayal. Suntai said he least expected the deputy governor to lust for his (Suntai’s) office given the confidence he reposed in him.
Suntai, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Sylvanus Yakubu, said the governor was not the only one that felt betrayed but the entire people of the state.
Yakubu, who was reacting to Umar’s statement on Tuesday that he was 100 per cent loyal to Suntai and would not undermine his authority, said, “His (Umar’s) activities are a direct opposite of what he keeps saying.”.
Yakubu, in a statement made available to newsmen in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, on Thursday, added that he had personally lost the respect for Umar, who has been the state acting governor since October last year when Suntain sustained injuries when the small aircraft he flown crashed in nearby Adamawa.
“The deputy governor keeps talking of 100 per cent loyalty, but the reverse is the case; his people are in court against Governor Suntai,” he said.
Besides the allegation that Umar bribed the state lawmakers to transmit power to him to continue to act, he also accused the deputy governor of being the sole financier in the suit Danbaba filed against some members of the House of Assembly.
Yakubu said, “What we want is to see him (Umar) showing concern for the governor’s health, and loyalty to his principal, by negotiating with him on how to resolve the political impasse.
“The governor had on August 28 announced the dissolution of the executive and new appointments but Umar disregarded the dissolution. A cabal was trying to hijack the machinery of government.”
Meanwhile, a former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Alhaji Habu Isa, has said that Umar’s continued stay in office as acting governor was constitutional.
Isa said in a statement on Thursday that Umar’s tenure as acting governor was in order since the House had passed a resolution for him to continue in that capacity till Suntail would be fit to resume his office.
He said, “The lawmakers were convinced that the governor they met was not the source of the letter of resumption sent to the House. Their efforts to set up a médical panel was blokked when by proxy the state executive council was dissolved. Left with no other option in the interim.
“The State Assembly passed a resolution mandating Alhaji Umar to continue in acting capacity.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

I think this man so called suntai shld take his health serious rather than bn allow by cabals to push him unnecessarily to resume his office.
ReplyDeleteWhy are humans so ungrateful. Suntai, God spared you for a reason. You have not started standing on your two feet and you are already struggling for power. Wow. Were you not the same one who was carried down from the plane. Are you not the same one who stir at people and smile? I am yet to hear you speak! I don't like what your deputy is doing for he should really be concerned and loyal. But I believe that, since your condition is not stable, you should rest . Please attend to your health. Life is most important. Others are vanity. Face God. God kept you alive and if he wants you on that seat you definitely end up there.I know you think your deputy is being greedy but I support him in this case. You are not okay. Period.
ReplyDeleteMust Nigerians die in office? Where is Suntai's wife and children? None of them can tell their father to come back home and recuperate instead of saddling him with PDP and STATE wahala? This was the same way they lured Yar adua to his death. You guys should not forget the words of Jean De La Fontaine: BETTER A LIVING BEGGAR THAN A BURIED EMPEROR
ReplyDeleteIs it Danbaba Suntai that is complaining of betrayal or members of his kitchen cabinet.
ReplyDeleteWhat is wrong with Suntai; how can he accuse his debuty of betrayal wen he was made acting governor according to the constitution? Suntai is lucky he wasn't impeached, he's lucky he even survived that plane crash and he should be thanking God and paying more attention to his health!
ReplyDelete@Gbenga you must be crazy , who told you by law that a state should have Governor and acting Governor at the same time , in as much the Governor is on ground you can never call hes deputy acting Governor , You can not have 2 governor's in 1 state .
ReplyDeleteYakubu you know very well that Suntai is not capable of directing you to issue this statement, you jst fabricated this statement for your selfish interest at the detriment of Suntai's health. What is your problem really, why did u even bring him back from where he is receiving proper attention? All dis is bcos of 2015 abee? you guys dont care if he dies.
ReplyDeleteYakubu if Suntai could say half of d lies you ve just fabricated, d house of assembly would order his depiuty to hand over power back to him (SUNTAI).. But u hav only succeeded in exposing yourself and d Kangaroos who were once in d corridors of power in d days of Suntai. They didn't believe tHeir eyes. We hav wise up, u cannot deceive us ahgain. Deputy carry go.
