Rivers State Commissioner of Police accuses Amaechi of mobilising youths against Jonathan

THE Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, on Thursday accused the Rivers State government of mobilising youths against President Goodluck Jonathan.

Mbu said this while giving reasons for the chasing out of 13,000 newly-recruited teachers from the Liberation Stadium where they had gathered to receive their letters of posting on Wednesday.

Armed policemen had stormed the stadium and chased away the teachers.

But speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Mbu explained that he acted on a security report that those at the stadium were hired to disrupt the peace in the state.

The CP said the people at the stadium on Wednesday were youths hired to demonstrate against Jonathan.

Putting the number of the youths inside the stadium at 18,000, Mbu displayed some placards allegedly recovered from the crowd.

Some of the placards displayed by the CP read, ‘Amaechi for Vice President 2015’, ‘North for President,’ ‘Amaechi for VP,’ ‘It is time for the North’.

Mbu said the action of the state government was targetted at distracting the police.

He said, “The truth is that the government of the state is trying to keep the police perpetually at work and distracting us. Those newly employed teachers in quote were hired youths. They were hired to carry placards and protest against the President of the country. I am here to show you the placards.

“They were called to go there. In all, they did not invite the police; nobody invited the police. My informants called me that they were not called to be given letters but were given card boards to protest against Jonathan.

“They tore these things into pieces (holding the placards). We put them together. As a Commissioner of Police whose ears are on the ground, I will always abort such gatherings.”

Reacting, the state government described Mbu’s claim as a fabrication aimed at justifying police nefarious activities.

A statement by the Chief of Staff in the Rivers Government House, Chief Tony Okocha, described Mbu and the state police command as liars.

  1. I so much believe the Police side of this story otherwise why should the govt share posting letters at the stadium, why not at the ministry of education? Well I don't blame the governor but GEJ for not seriously dealing with these G7 miscreants.

  3. Mbu should bury himself in shame. We know he was directed by Oga at the top to teargas innocent people.

  4. Liars!!

Police are one the group of people denting the image of this country. I don't know who is who in Rivers state.

Possibly the state belongs to the Police commissioner or Governor should be in charge of the state the answer still remains ambiguous. However, they should try this in one of APC's states and see how far.

When an obnoxious act like this continues based on the influence of Oga at the top, it will do us no good but to keep staining the image of the country.

    1. Even the APC controlled states would not go this far to descredit. President GEJ the way Gov Amaechi is doing in his naked greed of power and pulling down the president!. There is no smoke without fire. Ask yourself, when has it been the norm to invite people to the stadium just to issue appointment letter?. Where they called to the place when they were interviewed whose numbers would have obviously more than these?. Why now if not for ulterior motive?. AMAECHI want to demonstrate to his sponsors that he can do the dirty game, pull down the president and destroy the reputation of the only time a south south is in the presidency so as to guaranteed his vice presidency position even at the expense of his people. What he sowed, he will surely reap!.

Is Jonathan God that People can not talk about him, they have talked abt other presidents so who is he, if Amaechi wants to be VP in 2015 he is free abi is he not a Nigeria. We have not benefited from GEJ tenure as South-South, after he refused to implement the UNEP report to safe the OGONIS because his Okrika wife will not let him. SHAME ON GEJ
