Documents from the Abuja Geographical Information Systems (AGIS) shows that the property, located at No. 8 Bamanga Tukur Street, Gudu District, near the Gudu cemetery, belongs to Mrs. Salisu.
Ownership details of property OG247326, point unmistakably to Mrs. Salisu’s land rights, but neither her, nor the former president, could be reached for comment; although authoritative family sources confirmed the ownership and the relationship.
The Gudu killings have pitched the Nigerian human rights community against anti-terrorist campaigners in a bitter debate about the threshold of caution that security forces on anti-terror missions ought to uphold where the insurgency is generally armed, and have demonstrated maximum capability for ruthless murder and violence.
Soldiers and SSS officials, spurred by intelligence reports that a sleeper cell of Boko Haram insurgents, embedded in the Gudu neighbourhood, were about to strike again in Abuja, pre-emtorily stormed the building inhabited by squatters, mostly tricycles drivers, petty traders and artisans, in the early hours of Friday, killing at least seven and leaving several injured.
A spokesman for the tricycle association angrily lambasted security officials on Channels TV, in an interview Monday, claiming that “because two or three Boko Haram people were in the building offers no excuse to kill innocent people.”
Security forces have been in anxious alert after the Boko Haram insurgents scored a string of deadly success in missions that targeted This Day newspaper office, the United Nations office, the Force Headquarters of the Nigeria Police, and the Anti-Robbery Squad headquarters of the Police- all in Abuja. The sect has also visited punishing attacks on neighbourhood churches killing scores of worshipers.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered, within intelligence sources, Tuesday, that a mood of panic alert in the security community was what precipitated the Apo killings also thought to be “quite frankly an operational failure,” underscoring, top operatives disclosed to PREMIUM TIMES, “the imperative for deeper and specialized human rights training for agents on anti-insurgency mission.”
Residents claim a representative of the owner of the house had given the squatters a week notice to vacate the property.
The squatters were killed before the expiration of the notice. Most of the dead and wounded were shot in the back, execution style.
It is not known yet whether Mr. Obasanjo played any role in that tragic eviction operation.
Meanwhile, multiple security sources have told this paper that the SSS had released most of the squatters arrested at the building after it was unable to link them to any terrorist activities.
News of the release of the squatters came just as the Nigerian Senate, the Police and the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, promised to investigate the killings.
Chairman of the NHRC, Chidi Odinkalu, told PREMIUM TIMES it was essential to investigate and verify the death of the squatters.
“The facts of this matter should be dispassionately verified,” Mr. Odinkalu said. “That is an obligation everybody must take seriously.”

why bringing the former President into this? Must we play politics with everything?
ReplyDeleteCould this be renactment of OBJ and his usual method, a replay of massacre in Odi in Bayelsa and Zakibiam in Benue states? I want Femi Falana to investigate this matter as he has been begging to do and I hope he will not withdraw now. Let this matter not be swept undercarpet becos of the personalities involved. I hope threats of Atiku, Arewa, NEF to investigate to the latter will not die down now OBJ is directly or indirectly connected, simply because OBJ is working together with them to pull down GEJ and enthrone a Northern President. I hope all those including National Assembly calling for heads to roll will not hide now seeing one of them and not a perceived ENEMÝ or his relative owns the building. I wonder what would have happened had this building belonged to any of the perceived enemy or his relative or was connected to sending the security agents for the assault. Nigeria is a place where there is different social laws and justice for each group or tribe. Nigerians generally also view everything in that same manner, meaning Nigerians condemn or accept or tolerate or view a situation or a thing based on tribe/area/group the individual(s) involved come(s) from or who the individual(s) is/are. Most times views are tilted towards tribal angles. That is why many people are being killed daily even as I am writing now in hundreds by Boko Haram in the North, yet some people (among who are currently shouting calling for heads on Apo killing) have never condemned these acts of wasting of innocent bloods. These elements include so called human rights activists. We only see them calling for hell each time the Govt agents counter the terrorists perhaps out kill them. You then will see them start shouting human right human right. But any time BH kill the govt agents or innocent citizens these elements will relax and probably happy, nothing will be heard from them, as if they're rejoicing for the success of BH against Nigeria. They'r like yea... we are winning, let BH continue the havoc. Any retaliation by Govt agency will be confronted by their venomous condemnation and attack.
ReplyDeleteThe same goes for Nigeriaeye's commentators or bloggers because I am surprise to see that none here has so far reacted to this news. Which means you people can no longer say anything about the latest. Had this happened to be any other person, say enemy from opposition to the group or interest you support or belong. I believe by now this page would have been filled with comments and reactions, condemning and insulting the owners of the building or their relatives or even their party or tribe. Nigeriaeye bloggers would have written all sorts of rubbish on this news. Which means majority of writers are sentimentals.
Sentiments have made justice this country a caricature, offence that will put one jail, same offence may award another applauds. Just because each belongs to different group or tribe. Please let us abhor sentiments and biasness, view things fairly and realistically not sentimentally. I want people to disect the news and comment on the issue on board. God bless Nigeria.
The high level of illiteracy in dis country is responsible for our problem, now politics has come into a crucial issue. If u can recalled the Keyan westgate attack dat is how dey stay n coordinated the that successive attack Nigerians be wise for once.
ReplyDelete@anonymous 9:17am:You have well spoken and i say “Ameen“ to your prayer (GOD Bless Nigeria),pls i also have a prayer which i will really like you to comment “Ameen“ at end of the prayer. If really, all these report we read about the killing of those innocent men at apo by the security men,if truely those men killed were innocent of all those alligations laid against them by the security men as claim by the media and the public then, my prayer is-:May the killers, sponsors, those that support the killing of those innocent men at apo and the members of bokoharam, their sponsor, those that support the killing of innocent Muslims and christians and their evil acts meet with the wrath of GOD. May they in the cause of discharging their duties meet with a more painful and untimely death, may they be humiliated as they humiliate their victims for no just cause, but for those among them that regret their past and turn to GOD in repentance and ask for GOD‘S Forgiveness . I pray may GOD in His‘s infinite Mercy Forgive and have Mercy opon us all, cos our GOD Is ever Forgiving and Merciful, anonymous may we all say “Ameen“ to this prayer.
ReplyDeleteWhich means the writer..at 10:21 am supports the govt action, so we have to support the govt to wipeout BH by any means possible. You cannot rule out politics becos I have seen that it is politics which drives our actions and comments here in this forum and in Nigeria at large. It is same politics which made most nigerians not to raise an eye brow when some six young men from our neighbouring southeast were killed in same Apo in 2007. the falanas and co did not ask to be allowed to investigate it. My Sister/Brother, Nigerians cannot be wise only when it concerns you. No..... Nigerians need to wise in any and every case no matter who is involved.
ReplyDeleteYou may think you are literate and others illiterates becos the second respondent has spoken the truth about the problem in the country, and this truth does not go down well with you. If the news had that it GEJ sister or wife owns the place. Heaven would have fallen. The issue here is no matter who is involved the law must follow its course. I read previously how almost everyone in this forum was insulting and calling for heads when the incident occurred. Like the second respondent, surprise to see nobodying is writing and raining aspersions on the govt. Let the blogging go on.
May be they mean Obasanjo's relation. Sisiter? It's doubtful. His sister is either late or too old for this kind of building. Let the media do their job thoroughly.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pity that the so called journalists sometimes want to create issues where there is none, what is the corellation within Obasanjo and Mrs Salisu, the building may belong to anybody either Obj,salisu or anybody, was the building given to those illegal occupants, were they suppose to be residing there without any recourse to security and safety? If you can't afford a room within the city why can't you move to satelite towns around Abuja, must they stay in that place moreso, they 've been told to quit the place. However, security operatives were not doing well in terms of intelligent information, those people would have been arrested and not to be killed afterall they were not armed though nobody can rule out the Boko haram information because those guys are everywhere. We can only pray for the repose of dead ones if truly they are innocent. Finally, do not politicise security and safety of life of citizenry,Obasanjo is a Nigerian like any other person please don't drag Baba personalty to such an issue.
ReplyDeleteOf course they must be armed, they fired @ the security operatives first.
ReplyDeleteToooor please tell them oh. if they were not armed, then na teeth dem carry fire back @ the operatives.
