Benjamin Anayo Nnaemeka must have stretched his luck too far as he is currently cooling his heels in the detention of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agents (NDLEA). Sometime in 2009, Nnaemeka was arrested for drug-related offence.
That year, Nnaemeka, 36, was arrested by NDLEA operatives and found out to have ingested 1.794kg of substance that later tested positive for cocaine. He allegedly shipped the drug from Brazil. At that time, Nnaemeka was caught carrying a Nigerian International Passport with number A00052663. Upon conclusion of investigations, Nnaemeka was subsequently charged to court but let go on bail while the case is still subsisting in court.
While still awaiting his faith in the ongoing trial, the bachelor again renewed his contact with the drug cartel that initially financed his Brazil deal for another trip. This time, he was sent to Pakistan for same purpose. Recently, during a routine screening of passengers on Etihad Airlines from Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan. Nnaemeka was again re-arrested for being in possession of substance tested to be heroin and weighing 1.820kg.
This time around, Nnaemeka decided to give it a go when the sum of N4 million was dangled before him by his sponsors. NDLEA officials later discovered that of the 100 wraps of the substance that Nnaemeka swallowed, he already excreted some of them while airborne. Unlike the document with which he was arrested four years ago, Nnaemeka, this time was carrying a Nigerian passport number A02349133.
A product of Igwebuike Primary School Udi in Enugu State, from where he had his elementary education, Nnaemeka blamed his second foray into unemployment on his plans to get married before end of this year. According to him, “I am a man.
I know that what I did was bad but it is due to unemployment. I was first arrested in 2009 when I went to Brazil to smuggle Cocaine. When I came out on bail, there was no job for me to do. Although my case with the NDLEA is pending in court; I decided to try again hoping that I might be lucky.
“This time around I was promised N4 million. My intention was to settle down because I want to be working rather than staying idle. I am still single at my age. It is not that I do not want to be married,” Nnaemeka confessed amid tears. Chairman of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, in his reaction to Nnaemeka’s arrest, called for stiffer penalties for drug offenders. He commended the efforts of the anti-narcotics agents at the airport for the second arrest of the suspect.
“The Agency will continue to press for stiffer penalties for drug trafficking. In criminal justice, unless punishment is certain and commensurate to the crime committed, offenders will always be attracted by the financially incentives,” he added.

Nobody can deny that but I think its high time our government do something about this unemployment also the ibo leaders must take proper action in controlling all this waywardness, the image of this country had be soiled almost everywhere by the bad eggs among the ibo tribe to the extent that most pple especially from west African neighbouring countries assumed all Nigerians are ibos cause they are d post popular(in crimes), I travelled a lot and I tell you once u reveal to pple from Cotonu, Togo, Abidjan that you are an IBO most will change immediately towards u, sometimes I don't want to tell them who I am so as to avoid arguing or explaining that some ibos are gud, not all are bad etc. pls its high time this shame and recklessness from this part of the country be curtailed.
