There
are indications that the Federal Road Safety Corps may extend the
deadline for the enforcement of new driving licence and number plates.
The corps had given September 30 as
deadline for motorists to obtain the two vital documents and was
expected to commence a nationwide enforcement on October 1.
But following public outcry showing that
over 50 per cent of motorists had yet to procure the two items, the
FRSC might have bowed to pressure to extend the deadline to the end of
the year.
A source at the FRSC head office in
Abuja told our correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday that the Corp
Marshal, Mr. Osita Chidoka, had already sent a proposal to the joint
tax force for the extension.
There were complaints from motorists,
especially in Lagos and Abuja that they faced a lot of difficulties in
processing the new driving licence and the number plates.
Meanwhile, the FRSC on Wednesday in
Lagos continued its speed limit campaign and encouraged motorists and
transport companies to install a standard device in their vehicles.

Mr O.Chidoka has really done well in FRSC & should as well be recommended for his policies. An extension for the new driving licence & plate nos will als be a credit.
ReplyDeleteIs the new plate number required in the first place? Why should a car be registered twice if not to corruptly enrich some people? Change of plate numbers should only apply to vehicles that dont already have numbers
ReplyDeleteOr dat u bring d old one and receive d new one free of charge.
ReplyDeletethis is criminal, is there any need for the new plate number? Why cant you ask us to ensure that the ones we are using is very clean either by washing it or by making a new one?
ReplyDeleteIs there nothing sensible to contribute to the nation other than create your own avenue of stealing from the nation? New number plate is just moving the last digits to the front and front to back then nations map. This idea should be scrapped even the new drivers licence.
Stop defrauding us else it will continue to the ends of time in this nation.
There was a reason for the new plate no.The plan is to ensure that you are the plate number on your vehice such that in a crime,a vehicle can be traced to you.So no more foul play by hundlums or criminals. It is person-specific and a welcome idea to fight crime in Nigeria. In outside the country there is a database where you just enter few info and details of a vehicle get retrieved. You can check old news about the new plate no to confirm this info.
ReplyDeleteit is a lie! FRSC dont have nay data base! Go to them and request for any data they tell you they dont have. The institution is just collecting money to enrich themselves. What is the essence of plate number that can not be used to retrieved stolen vehicle?
ReplyDeleteIt is a good thing to have a reliable data bank of personnel, vehicle etc in the country for many reasons. The most appalling in the Nigerian context:the repetition of duties (V I O, FRSC and now the NPF) on the same citizen. where is the data base and the relevance of previous bio-metrics (NPC/INEC)? They lack co-relation and credibility. New plate numbers for all vehicles with exorbitant charges cannot be an ending solution to crime and security but cheap extortion and indirect punishment.
ReplyDeleteEnforcing change of plate number is totally worthless.. They keep changing these things, ways of extortion from the masses. Corruption of the highest order!
ReplyDeleteWhen are we going to get right in this country?? The same Bio-metric details FRSC is capturing exists with ... NCC(Sim Registration) and INEC (Voter Registration)..In case you dont know.. Police recently got an approval to implement police BCMR.. to capture the same detail.. Why should i pay for capturing my finger prints in 4 different places?? why cant these be centralized?? When will this government stop inflicting hardship on people .. when????
ReplyDeletethe fresh air is seriously blowing hard on us now we known what it means
