The traditional ruler of Udo Community and an in-law to the Benin Monarch, HRH Patrick Igbinidu, has been reportedly abducted at his Udo kingdom.
The traditional ruler, (Iyasere of Udo), was allegedly kidnapped at about 7p.m. Wednesday by a four-man gang while playing draft with his friends close to his palace in the community.
He was forcefully taken away to unknown destination in an Audi car.
When contacted, Edo State Police Command spokesman, Moses Eguavoen, said he was on leave and could not confirm the report.
Chairman of Ovia South-West Local Government Area, Morrison Ogunrobo, confirmed the kidnap of the traditional ruler, adding that security operatives have been drafted to the area.
Udo, a small community in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State, southsouth Nigeria is a significant community in Benin Kingdom, where all crown princes to the Benin throne must perform certain rituals before being crowned as Oba of Benin.
Kidnapping has become rampant in Edo State.

ReplyDeleteInformation reaching the public indicate the Royal monarch- the Iyasere of Udo kingdom set free on Thursday the 19 of Sept,after spending 8 days in the kidnapper's den with a sum of N9.85m. The Bini chief narrated how he spent the whole period under the elements without covering in the forest along the Benin - Akure road. When he was kidnapped late on wednesday last week by four men and a driver with an Audi 80 salon car, he was taken to the Ovia River bank along the siloko road before taken with a canoe down the river and place some meters away from the river for some night. When the security personnel was now patrol the river, he was now transfered at night far to the forest along Benin Akure road for the remaining of his stay. When he inquire of his location, he was informed that they are now in Ondo. State. While negotiating, he was threatened to be killed but later the conveyor of the money was to be killed since the N30m that was negotiated was not Complete. The Royal Monarch now pleased for them not to kill the messager but after they have received the money, they can kill him. After they have successfully collected the money, they never talked about killing him anymore but handed him his sim card and N5000 as his share of the money which will serve as his transport back home. He now inquire of nis phones, they informed him that the phones were sold to take care of his feeding while with them. They have to walk out from the forest or more than two hours starting from around 2am that Thursday. On getting to the expressway, the driver was already waiting for them. They boarded their vehicle and left him there to locate his way home. The Iyasere thank all who in one way or the other pray and support his family to facilitate his release especially the Christian community in Udo kingdom.
