The Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Zone one, David Omojola, on Thursday presented the sum of N35.7 million to 91 families of police officers killed during the Boko Haram insurgency in Kano.
Omojola said that families who were presented with their cheque were the third batch to receive cash support from the command.
He said the money which is an insurance coverage for the policemen is meant to alleviate the sufferings of the deceased families and those wounded in the course of their duties.
He explained that the money should not be seen as compensation for the families, saying no amount of money can bring back those killed in the course of service.
Omojola said one of the families received one million naira while the least got N100, 000 naira. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

I bet d life's of our police officers ain't worth much when all the widows get after their demise is just about #392,000.where will that get them,it can barely pay a full yeah of a single child school fees not to even address the cost of rent, feeding, utility bills, school uniform and general upkeep of the children. We now wonder why they will not lay their life for the uniform.Alot of police in nigeria are corrupt and I must say,i despise a lot of them with the way they extort money from the helpless masses, however what is the incentives for them from the government when all they are assured of getting is a pantry sum should they lose their life in the line of duty.We have a failed state and we need to start all over again,we can't just blame the police for all the ills in the society. For christ sake a police officer lost his job(rightfully so) for getting caught on video for extorting money from a driver recently. What appalled me is the weight of this crime compared to what Cecelia ibru and alameighseha perpetrated but yet they got a very light sentence(in most cases,a year or less under d pretence of medical condition that all of a sudden arises as soon as kirikiri looms around d corner). Our society has become one where the rich are immune to prosecution,d law is only applied to the poor who can't defend themselves.i pray for the day of reckoning when those that have plundered the resources of this nation will be made to bear the wrath of the masses they have often looked at with disdain
