Fourteen people, including 11 palace guards of the Emir of Hadejia in Jigawa State, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje Haruna, have died in an accident on the Hadejia-Kano Road.
The accident reportedly occurred at 9pm about five kilometres after Ringim town.
The palace guards were said to be travelling in an 18-seater bus, which was heading to the Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano to receive the monarch, who was returning from an overseas trip.
The Information Officer for Hadejia Local Government Area, Mallam Muhammad Garba Talaki, said the accident was caused by a downpour.
He said the bus conveying the palace guards had a head-on collation with a fuel tanker from Kano.
According to him, both vehicles caught fire at impact. The occupants were burnt beyond recognition.
The information officer said the bodies of the victims were taken to Hadejia for burial.
The State Correspondents’ Chapel of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condoled with the Emir on the death of his guards.
In a statement by its Chairman, Malam Ahmed Abubakar, the chapel prayed Allah to grant the late guards Al-jannah Firdaus. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
