VIDEO: Nigerian police officer caught on tape trying to extort N25,000 from a motorist.

In the video above, a Nigerian police officer was caught on tape trying to extort 25k from a motorist.

Unknown to the police officer, a candid camera caught all the action on tape.

Below is a transcript of the negotiation for a bribe between the dismissed police officer and the motorist. Enjoy:

Policeman: Once we enter this compound now(police station), I no go follow you talk

Motorist(pleading): I don’t have N25,000

Policeman: OK. Talk better thing now, make you go your way, make you go your Osborne

Motorist: (Protests again) I don’t have more than N2,000

Policeman: Ok (sighed). Oh.. (quiet)

Motorist: If you want to help me, must I pay N25k?

Policeman: I know sir, I know you cannot raise N25,000. But talk something reasonable

Motorist: (Female passenger) I told you I just got my ticket now. You want me to show you. My ticket is in the car.

Policeman: Wait now… What you are saying is very far… Add something reasonable to that. Make you go your way. I know there is no how you can raise N25k; a guy like you.

Motorist: Oga, a man like me… oga

Policeman: And moreover, I am not working alone. Look, if you enter this compound (police station), you will pay bigger money.

Motorist: You know I won’t stand on that ground and risk saying bigger amount when I don’t have. I don’t have…

Policeman: I am not working alone

Motorist: I don’t live here. I came here to collect something. I have N5000 on me. If I cannot at least… I’m going to

Ajah. I’m coming back to Airport tomorrow. How do you want me to do it?

Motorist (Female) I’ve told you .. should I show you my ticket?

Policeman: Wait… No be $50, $20 and other dollars dey with you?

Motorist: (Female): I have told you I’m paying for excess luggage. That was why I offered you…

Policeman: All that $50 dollars – you want to use for excess luggage… you dey speak grammar; by the time when speak (sic) no dey for two of us, you go see my own. Add something to that money.

Motorist: I don’ have

Police: You don’t have ….(sighed) pause…

Motorist: So you cannot help me because I cannot put small money to it….. to that N2,000 (silence for some moments)

Policeman: I have related to you like my own young brother, like friend…

Motorist: Have I not spoken to you like a man, to tell you what I have?

Policeman: if it is possible from that side.. you think I will still be inside here? (the car)

Motorist: You think I will waste my time here if I have more money?

Policeman: I’m not working alone, if I am, even if it is N1,000 I will collect from you and go.

(Policeman picks his mobile phone and calls a colleague named Wasiu and reports that the jeep car that he arrested is not ready to deal; that he should tell Oga to ‘book it’ “He told me N2,000”, he reported to the said Wasiu.)

  1. Guy, that was smart! Unfortunately, he might still get away with it, but this is undeniable evidence.

  2. Is this news? Who is not used to this? Are they going to stop it after this shameless show? Who is the oga at the top that has not done this one time or the other? Who can bell the cat and stop this excesses? We only have to thank God that we can now record their atrocities daily without the bloody stack illiterates, of which majority of them are, knowing the power of gargets we all have now. They won't stop and we will keep on exposing them.

  3. This is how technology is helping Nigeria to fight corruption.

The value of technology in fighting corruption is huge. It can stop multiple voting, fake identity, fake documents, stealing, robbery, etc.

Now internet banking is helping many people to escape robbery and stealing. Even liars are caught with technology.

    Use technology more.

  6. this is the NIGERIAN police force from HQTRs to the divisional stations. the guy said it and he is right. he is not acting alone. There should be Death sentence executed public like in China before we can get it right. Let them pass a bill that 'FOR ANY CORRUPT ACT PUBLIC EXECUTION' whether N1.00 or N100b. you will see things will change.

  9. AY is correct, sometthing of such he mentioned should be done,a bill xxxxxx, but because the entire government is full of corruption, they will not want to pass such a bill, but a bill that will intend to keep people from expression of freedom they are agitating to pass. Their cup will soon full, only if all Nigerians can step out of shore of Nigeria and see most countries that don't even have 1 quater of what we have how they are developing, i tell you all that overnight, that government will be turn apart and people will take the challenge. But 80% of Nigerians don't know we are suffering, I mean they don't know we should not be suffering like this, i know of a country where the pump price of fuel is 40 naira per liter, they refine their crude themselves and make it readily available, scarcity is not in their dictionary, infact, it has never occured before. Even GEJ landed in that country in one of his trips to refuel his jet. Tell me, if such a country has no good plan for the country, could he land for refuelling, in Naija case, they will give you adultrated fuel as eviation fuel. Moreover, this country is not even as blessed as Nigeria in terms of oil and gas resources, Yet we are paying through our nose, which has also affected the price of other things (food, housing, transportation e.t.c). Lastly, all these troubles are all from corruption, Nigerians, we should also reduce the number of children we give birth to, over population is also comming one of our problems, if we don't check it, we will keep complaining of shortage of everything, government need to look into this, take china for example.
