Thousands of Nigerian women converge in Abuja to celebrate President Goodluck

More than 10,000 women from all over the country on Thursday  converged at the Eagle Square, Abuja, to celebrate  President Goodluck Jonathan for his contribution to women empowerment.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the women came from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT for the occasion.

The event, organised by the National Council for Women Society, is also to celebrate Nigerian women from different social and economic backgrounds for their contributions to the nation’s development.

NAN reports that there was heavy presence of security operatives in and around the venue of the event to ensure hitch-free celebration.

All roads leading to the Eagle Square have been closed and traffic diverted, while the Federal Secretariat has also been shut.

The event, which has Dame Patience Jonathan as mother of the day and Vice-President Namadi Sambo, as the special guest of honour, is featuring a rally and presentations.

  2. Now people no longer know how to comment shey! Since it does not affect your tribe. That's our problem. We don't face our challenges.

Organising a useless jamboree with the nations money without any meaningful contribution to our collective welfare and d finance minister is already lamenting abt d state of the nations purse.

I think we need to wake up in d nation and bring our leaders to accountability. Let them know they cant just do anything and get away with it.

Remember that ASUU is still on strike and their conditions haven't been met yet we are celebrating frivolity. It is well with our dear nation.

  3. What kind of useless country is this? Nothing is working, yet the useless people we call our leaders are wasting money. How much did you (GEJ) pay those useless women? More women have been empowered, but how has that affected Nigerians in general? May "Amadioha" strike all of you, VAGABONDS IN POWER!
