Taraba Lawmakers: Suntai Unable to Govern, Should Return to U.S. for Treatment

A twist was added to the unfolding political drama in Taraba State on Thursday morning as 16 out of the 24 members of the Taraba State House of Assembly barred ailing state governor, Danbaba Suntai, from resuming work, because of his feeble state.

The decision of the lawmakers followed a prolonged meeting with the governor last night, during which, they came to grips with the true state of his health.

.
In a statement released to journalists, the 16 lawmakers insisted that Suntai was unfit to resume and that they doubted the author of the letter, which was sent to the House of Assembly on Monday.

Based on their assessment of Suntai, the lawmakers authorised Garba Umar, his deputy, who has been acting as the governor of the state in the last ten months, to continue to hold fort until Suntai was fit to steer the ship of state.

The 16 lawmakers opposed to Suntai’s resumption of work, are led by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Haruna Tsokwa, who had on Tuesday warned that Suntai could not resume unless he addressed them.

The Speaker, who is believed to be loyal to the acting governor, was also at the ‘meeting’ with Suntai on Wednesday night.

  5. And the first thing he did was to reshuffle a cabinet that the acting deputy Governor did not reshuffle!! What is the fate of the sacked cabinet members now that Suntai is considered unfit to take such decisions?

  7. Do African leaders know when to resign and leave Office for younger energetic people? No not even when they are seriously sick and desperately need rest and recuperation.

    Lets look at recent cases:

    1. The late President of Nigeria, Umaru Yar’Adua’s was uprooted from his sick bed and brought in by his associates and so called loving wife to keep running the country even though he was incapable of doing so.

    2. Hastings Banda made himself Malawi's President for life and ruled the country for 33 years. He was forcibly removed from office at the age of 95. He contested another election at the age of 96 and died aged 99. Associates depended on him being in power to ensure their greedy and corrupt ambitions were met.

3.John Mugabe is 89 years old and has been in power in Zimbabwe for 33 years. He recently "won" another election for 5 years at the end of which he would be 94 years old!

    4. Close to home we have Paul Biya who is 80 years old and has been in power in Cameroon for 31 years.

Now we have the saga of Danbaba Suntai who is very very ill and brain damaged from a nasty plane crash. His wife and associates wants him to be Governor in name while they loot the Taraba State Treasury. Wicked people. What kind of wives do Nigerian women make? Not vey loving I am afraid.
