The Anambra State Police Command has intensified the search for two traditional rulers kidnapped on Sunday in the state.
The traditional ruler of Awgbu in Orumba North Local Government of
the state, Igwe Mike Okechukwu, Eze di Ora Mma II, was on Sunday
abducted by a gang of four gunmen in Awka while travelling with his wife
in the new Sport Utility Van recently donated by Governor Peter Obi.
The kidnappers, who operated in a red SUV, were said to have accosted
the monarch and his wife at Kwata Junction and took him away in their
vehicle.
Igwe Okechukwu was said to be taking his wife to a hospital for medical attention before the incident.
No contact had been established with the gang but the Police said on
Monday that they were doing everything possible to secure his release.
Earlier on Friday, the traditional ruler of Abacha community in
Idemili North Local Government, Igwe Goddy Mbakwe, was abducted by
another gang of gunmen at about 6pm, near Ugwunwasike, Ogidi.
Confirming the two kidnap incidents, the state Police Public
Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, said the command was working
round the clock to ensure that the two monarchs were rescued and the
abductors arrested.
Though, he said he was not aware of any contact with the kidnappers,
abductors of the Igwe of Abacha were said to have demanded N80m ransom.

This madness called kidnapping must stop. FGN should make it a law that any governor and the state police commissioner who cannot secure his state should resign.
