Man Buries Brother’s Son Alive For Money Rituals

A man and two other accomplices have been arrested and charged to court for burying his 3-year old brother’s son alive for money making ritual.

The incident happened in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, southwest Nigeria.

The man, Amidu Jimoh, 25, was arrested along with the herbalist, John Joseph, 60, who allegedly told him to carry out the dastardly act, along with another suspect, Maliki Aderounmu, 27.

After they were charged before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, they were remanded in prison custody.

The three accused persons were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder. Specifically they were accused of burying alive a three-year old boy for ritual purpose.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Adewale Amos, told the court that the first two accused persons, Jimoh and Aderounmu, conspired to embark on money ritual and solicited the assistance of Joseph.

The herbalist, a resident of Osunara village, Igangan, demanded for a child for the ritual.

Amos said Jimoh took away his brother’s son who lived in the same compound with him to about 20 metres from Bada’s Compound and buried him alive in a shallow grave.

The prosecutor said burying of the boy alive by Jimoh caused his death,
He said Jimoh was arrested and he led the police to the scene of the alleged crime.

The incident occurred on 24 July at Bada’s Compound, Igangan, Ibadan.

Amos said the offence contravened sections 324 and 316 (6) and punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. 11, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The pleas of the three accused persons were not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Alhaja Fatima Badrudeen, ordered the accused persons to be remanded in prison custody pending when the case file will be duplicated for legal advice.

She adjourned the case till 16 September for mention.

  1. I wonder why we waste time a lot ova matters like this especially when the accused admitted they actually comitted such a heinous act. Allow the law take its cause immediately and start to treat other issues .

  2. I don't blame them, it is d society at large who celebrates ill gotten wealth I blame. Everybody, both lazy, stark illirates etc wants to ride a jeep. The rich wants to get richer at the expense of others. Our values have been rubbished and thrown to the gutters. We are such vain people and until we realise this and change our ways, we'll continue to hear such gory and sad news. It is well.

  4. I thot it was only Igbos that love money and are willing to do anything to get it.
Condemn evil when you see it rather than attributing it to a particular tribe or culture.
It has not, does not and will never pay!!!

  11. I think that this very incident happened now to shut up all hostile tribal commentators. Evil abounds in every tribe and society just as good abound in every tribe and society. The finest men I have in my life do not come from my tribe, yet I have also received tremendous treatment from people of my tribe. Our job is to individually stay away from evil, not label other groups. Evil is a strictly personal affair, not tribal. That's why Jesus dared the one with no sin to cast the first stone. I am certain that most of those who castigate other groups on this medium have had excellent bosses, Pastors or neighbours from that tribe that have made tremendous contributions to their lives. That is why nobody should pay any attention to tribal politicians like Orji Uzor Kalu or Femi Fani-Kayode and their reactors who fan the embers of disord. Frustrated illiterates only take advantage of such unnecessary inflamations of non-existent absurdities to unleash mayhem. That is what I have read on this blog in the last 2 weeks. Stay away from this poison. It can kill you.
