Lagos
State Government says members of the Auto Spare Parts and Machinery
Dealers Association, operating within the Trade Fair Complex on the
Lagos-Badagry Expressway, are constituting a security threat to the
state.
The government explained that it adopted
the view as a result of the refusal of the traders to comply with the
law guiding their operations.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr.
Kayode Opeifa, said this at a stakeholders meeting on Wednesday,
organised by the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency.
He said despite efforts to make the
operators to regularise their business, ASPANDA members had refused to
deal with the government, claiming that they operate within a Federal
Government territory.
Opeifa, who was represented by the
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Sheyi Coker, added that the
position was no longer valid with the recent concessioning of the
complex to private investors. He urged the traders to cooperate with the
government in the overriding interest of all.
Opeifa said, “The insistence of ASPANDA that they operate outside the ambit of state government gives cause for concern.
“Lagos State Government has the primary
responsibility for public safety and security within its domain. So,
ASPANDA position is therefore inimical to the safety and security of the
millions of law-abiding residents of the state.”
The commissioner said there was need for
constant communication between auto spare parts dealers and the
regulatory agency considering the large concentration of vehicles in the
state.
He said the government would continue to provide a conducive environment for the dealers to do business in the state.
Permanent Secretary, MVAA, Mr. Akin
Hanson, said auto and spare parts dealers were strategically positioned
and could play a decisive role in crime prevention.

ReplyDelete$2m fraud: Nigerian fraudster arrested in Dubai
ReplyDeleteat Thursday, August 22, 2013
In what is considered a breakthrough in its fight against international crimes, the Interpol Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, headed by DCP Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, has in conjunction with its counterpart in Abu-Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, arrested one Itumo Anthony Chidebere, a suspected fraudster, who fled to Dubai after defrauding a Nigerian businesswoman of $2 million.
The 35-year-old suspect from Ebonyi State had been on the run for the past 13 months after perfecting the deal.
NE gathered that in June, 2012, the suspect presented himself to the said businesswoman as an estate broker in Dubai, claiming that he could purchase a house for his victim.
THE MAN BE OMO ONILE OF DUBAI, AN INTERNATIONAL VARIANT OF THE LAGOS VERSION.
What did Market men do to Lagos state government? Can't Fashola use half of his energy fighting ALAYE, OMONILE etc.m Why always market men? Today it is Alaba, Tomorrow it is Ladipo, next it is Aspanda. Why all these? Noman is an island and there is a limit to every fustration. Those who beat the drums of war should remember that they dont know who the victims/casualties will be.
ReplyDeleteWhy always the Lagos Market Men? What have they done to the LASG? Let Fashola use half of his energy to fight the menace of AREA BOYS, AGBERO, OMONILE etc in Lagos? Those beating the drums of war do not know who will be the victim/casualty. There is no way a man will spend the rest of his life labouring only for one AREA FATHER of a governor to use legislation and siphone his pocket and he will keep quiet.
ReplyDeleteLet's invite American spare parts dealers to modernize that business in Lagos state. There are many companies here in the US who would be willing to take up that biz. Companies O'Reilly Auto Parts, Pep Boys, Napa Auto Parts etc. Let's invite them and get all these riff-raff out of Lagos. And even closer to us are the South Africans. We can call them in. They will not try to take our state.
ReplyDeleteCos dey refuse double taxation u wanna move it safety and security issues. Naija
ReplyDeleteLASG is not perturbed or wants to flex muscle about the tribal colouration. Why always the Ibo traders? If Fashola can exersise half of his authority on Area Boys, Omonile, Agbero etc, they will just fizzle out. Only that APC is afraid of loosing the next election if such happens. Ibo traders should be left alone please! Aspanda today, Ladipo and Alaba tomorrow without any tangible reason. Those who beat the drums of war should know that anybody can be a casualty/victim. Nobody has the monopoly for violence!
ReplyDeleteHmmm! "A SECURITY THREAT" bcos this IGBO TRADERS no allow una IMPOSE one MUMU AREA MAN as BABA LOJA of TRADE FAIR COMPLEX. Make OGUN KILL all of una for LASG & ALAUSA. MUMU people.
