J.Martins blasts Wizkid for calling fans poor

*J.Martins

J.martins in a recent interview on Hot Fm 98.3 Abuja reacted to Wizkid’s outburst after he (Wizkid) was told by a fan he needed to go back to school for his poor use of tenses. Wizkid had lashed back calling the writer a ‘broke fan’

J Martins on the show said ‘I’m not taking any side, don’t mean no beef, no disrespect, and no hate but let the truth be told. I don’t believe because you feel you have a few change you didn’t have a few years ago and which you cannot guarantee having in a few years to come then you wake up and look at those people who have cheered you up, loved you, supported your music, bought your CD’s, prayed for you, just because you can lay your hands on some phone and you call them ‘poor’. Am not in and will never be in support of anyone who has such bad attitude.

*The controversial tweets
“It needs to be corrected, we owe our fans the duty of being good examples that’s why they hold us in high esteem, that’s why you are a role model and if you know you cannot be a good role model you have no business in Music. You don’t know if it’s that person that might help you tomorrow, whoever does that should be checked.

“You have to decide why you are in the music industry. If you know you cannot be a role model then you have no business being there”

Wizkid had written “Broke people always think they have an opinion” to a fan on his instagram page, after erroneously typing ‘i have an hangover’ just as he was about to perform at a wedding ceremony, leading to this fan to reply ‘you see why you have to go back to school’

Wizkid had been immediately immersed in retaliatory tweets from angry fans as soon the instagram exchange went viral. J.Martins is the first celebrity to make his comments on the issue.

  1. English has become something thats very difficult in Nigeria both from the illiterate and literate. Please which is correct here, "an hour later" or "a hour later"?

  2. It's not hard. If the word leads with a vowel sounding letter for e.g a,e,i,o,u your choice should be 'an'. So in your case hour is close to 'o' phonetically. "an hour later" is the correct and only usage. If it leads with a consonant sounding letter then use 'a' for e.g. a minute later, a biscuit, a zebra etc. Hope this makes sense, I'm no specialist but I did learn this in Primary 3. So are we saying Wizkid should go back to primary school? #justsaying

  5. "An hangover" is definitely not correct. But I don't think that is the point here. Any one can make very embarrassing mistakes on the hand-held devices from which we impatiently click "go" these days. The issue here is how you react as a "celebrity". It is a matter of attidute, pride, decorum and "curse of money". Curse of money being a situation where you get yourself to love the temporary quick money you have, so much so that you forget that not long ago you did not have it...like curse of knowledge. I think J.Martins is speaking maturely and responsibly to this unfortunate attitude.

  6. Simple english...words that start with vowels are preceeded by 'an'...even though 'hour' starts with 'h'..phonetically,the 'h' is silent..hence the 'an'..hangover on the other hand starts with 'h' n its not a silent letter..hence the use of 'a'..still though..use of english remains a major hurdle for most candidates in most exams, mainly due to lack of practice of d language (we dnt speak it at home cos some parents dnt want their kids to 4get their local dialect).n also d fact dat some english teachers are worse than d students dey teach n finally cos there's a lack or a reading culture amongst our students nowadays.gone are d days of d Enid Blyton novel series for kids..instead wat u find in kids skool bags are "compilation of love txt msgs" n "lyrics to popular/recent hip-hop songs"..let d children start reading again n we'll see a change..meanwhile wizkid..everybdy is prone to mistakes..callin ur fans "broke people" doesn't portray u in a good light..

  7. @IKE_D, if u are saying that an hour later is correct, wizkid is correct as well because the vowel sound "A" comes after the consonant "H" pls prove me if I am wrong.

  8. Wizkid has 'H' factor so hangover is pronounced 'angover' by him. 'Angover'starts with an "A" so he put "an" in front. :)
