The Inspector-General of Police, Mr.
Mohammed Abubakar, on Monday visited Port Harcourt, Rivers State
capital, without visiting the state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Abubakar was in the state to inaugurate
100 Prado Sports Utility Vans donated to the nine Niger Delta state
Police commands by the Niger Delta Development Commission.
The IGP also did not address officers and men of the command, who waited for several hours to hear from their boss.
The state Deputy Commissioner of Police,
Operations, Mr. Joshak Habila, addressed officers and men of the
Police. He thanked them for coming out enmasse.
It was at that pointed that security
operatives, especially those in their ceremonial uniforms, who had
waited to mount a guard of honour, left in disappointment.
Also, journalists, who waited anxiously
to get Abubakar’s views on the crisis rocking the state and the
controversy surrounding the decision of the state Police Commissioner,
Mr. Joseph Mbu, to ban rallies, left in disappointment.
A top government official in the state had told newsmen that the IGP did not pay a courtesy visit to the governor when he visited the city few months ago.
The official, who preferred to be
anonymous, recalled that a Deputy Inspector General of Police paid a
courtesy call on the governor .
Reacting, the Chief Press Secretary, Mr.
David Iyofor, said there was nothing to comment on over the refusal of
the IGP to visit the governor.
Iyofor said the decision of the police boss to visit or not to visit the governor was entirely his own (IGP’s).
On the part of the Police, the state
Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe, explained that the
IGP only went to inaugurate some vehicles at the Police Primary School
in Port Harcourt.
Agabe stated that although, she could
not say whether the IGP was in a hurry or not, she said Abubakar did not
even meet the officers and men, who were waiting at the command.
“Even the IG did not see the officers
and men that waited in the command. I cannot say if he was in a hurry,
but he (Abubakar) only went to the Police Primary School, where he
inaugurated some vehicles and later moved from there to the Airforce
Base,” Agabe explained.

ReplyDeletePolice r enemies of peace nd pple.their shames wll still come to manifestation.Jonathan is a clueless man for displaying politics of shame nd always dance to the tune played by his advicers.instead of governing to win 2015 is flexing muscles in. Rivers state.his gov has bn measured nd bn torned.
ReplyDeleteSouth-south have also been marginaliz for long,(kensaroriwa,Izike Boro etc), that is why they are supposed to rally round their own (GEJ), rather Ameachi is busy trying to portray the zone Unsafe because of his interest against his peoples interest.
ReplyDeleteIf we say GEJ is not good for us, Who is then the Angel that will be good ??????
I think conclusions should not be precipitated as he also didn't go to see men of the police force waiting to mount a guard of honour for him. We should rather wait to see if he chooses to give an explanation to clear the air on the controversy his visit may have brewed. Except there are provisions in the law that oblige him to pay courtesy to the Governor,if not,he reserves thevright to decide who to pay homage to in the course of discharging his duties. After all he's expected to be a neutral character. Let's not politicize every thing that happens in this country otherwise we'll be trivializing our politics.
ReplyDeleteJonathan is a big mistake, he is a devil
ReplyDeleteYou now belief us that IG and Police commissioner Mbu are acting on the instruction of oga at the top.
ReplyDeleteNa the message them send am to spite the Governor. Jobless people. Is it not the duty of the IG to see the Chief Sec. Officer of the state even if he does not go to see his command ppl? The list is getting longer. First it was Patience, latter Wike, and now IG. Who is next...........? Watch out for the next episode of CRISES IN RIVERS STATE AND THOSE WITH THE PRESIDENCY. lol
ReplyDeleteAmeachi is the architect of his own downfall.Truth be told would he have tried this with any of the past presidents and still be governor today??? Hes learning the hard way that insurbordination is an act that is not pardonable in our traditoonal culture. He should have taken a cue from alams, dariye, ladoja and rest of them. Atiku is still paying the price today;while james ibori is in jail and almustapha also went thru his ordeal because of it. I used to have a lot of respect for the man until i saw him on t.v saying things like i dont give a damn anymore and no one can stop my ambition as if he is talking to his classmate or political mate. e.t.c. it is quite obvious that he is being slowly alienated and he will not know the full extent of his ordeal until he has left power. Even his ardent supporters would abandon him when the time comes just like they did the atikus, dariyes and the rest of them. He needs to learn the concept of humility and how to stoop in order to conquer. What does he expect; that the IGP will come and pay him a visit so that he will now go around telling everyone that cares to listen that the IGP is in support or not in support of him. Besides there is nothing constitutional that says the IGP must visit the governor of any state he visits, he didnt even have the time to see his own men.My advise to ameachi is to stop all the noise making and concentrate on his job. If his conscience is clear he will be justified at the end of the day. If he chooses to follow the other path then his faith is left to him and only him alone. He should remember that not all those that are paying him visits mean him well and that at the end of the day he will carry his cross alone. A word is enough for the wise. It is no coincidence that most of the governors paying lipservice to him are also on their way out and are only looking for political relevance after their tenure so they should stop deceiving us that its about democracy and all. We are no fools and all know that the real issue is about the power permutations come 2015. If he thinks he can play politics as the Governor of a state and head of NGF (which by the way is not a constitutionally recognised body) then he should also be ready to face the music that comes with it. Afterall the same sin that atiku committed in his days is the same thing ameachi has tried and he is only receiving a small dose of what atiku went through. When the president was actionless he was described as being too timid, now he has his fangs out you are complaining that he is being undemocratic. In the words of former Pres OBJ i dey laugh ooo. Ameachi is fighting a battle he cannot win and the sooner he realises it the better for him. As a political strategist he knows little about the powers of a president because it is a seat he has never been on and at this rate will probably never occupy. He tried to make life uncomfortable for the president and now they have reciprocated by pulling the rug right from under his feet by making his state ungovernable for him and also making the governors forum a toothless bulldog. Oya now let him appoint his own commissioner of police and re-open his own house of assembly. Politics is not about bragging and showing power but about being smart. Ameachi has made all the noise he can and that isnt going to solve his problem. He is not as popular as he claims to be judging by the varied comments of people from his state and he should pray that the witchhunt does not continue after 2015. Assuming that they both leave office in 2015 (highly unlikely)his people (niger deltans) will never ever forgive him and his family, on the other hand if Jonathan gets re-elected then he can be rest assured of serving out a long and humiliating prison term because i am very sure that if you dig deep you will find that he is equally (if not more) corrupt as most public officials are; only in his case the authorities will not look the other way.
ReplyDeleteWhy can'nt we allow the sleeping dog lie ? Why are we so much interested in whether IG visited Amechi or not with inciting stmts . To visit Amechi should be purely discretional and shloud not be an issue at all . Why can't we pay attention to more serious national issues and allow Amechi to be for once in about 4 months . It has been Amech Amechi all the ; on the pages of newspaper ,internet,TV,radio . Pls let's talk about oda things and allow governor Amechi be .
ReplyDeleteWhat do you people expect from an errand-boy like our so-called IG. He takes orders from Dame if Jona is not around, I'm just wishing him a good exit very soon bcz as Jona is going by 2015, he's also following Dame and Jona back to his former job, class-teacher and possibly Jona might offer him a security-job in his school or he guard d shop where Dame will be doing her normal-job, Hairdresser.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you always insults the President? Must every evil and ill manner be ascribe to Mr President? I am sorry for Anonymous 9:42 Am. So human right gives you right to insult your own Commander- in- Chief? I pity this nation! How can we progress with this Pull-him-down-syndrom? All oppositions (both in PDP) are interested in, is to pull Goodluck down. Yet, none has convinced us about the solutions that are better than what the present Government is doing. Hypocrites!
ReplyDeleteNobody is pulling down GEJ.is the one falling his own hand.the whole naija voted,on gettin to d office he became Naija delta President.he has forgotten d population of Naija delta,2015 wl judge him.he embraces corruption, nothing is working in ds country except impunity.violence nd insecurity dominate .he is nt working so that his work can speak for him in 2015 but he rather places 2015 as priority.telling lies about GDP everyday amidst of High employement poverty of common pple.is only God knows how he wl maltreat Nigerians if given opportunity to rule again
DeleteDifferent STROKES for different MUMU! Hahahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteAnyone dt supports evils deeds, evil must locate dt person. Oga GEJ is disappointing d confidence people of Nigeria placed on him. How can u sit down n people are doin evil thing in ur name n u pretend u didn't know. God is on his throne n his judgement as we all know is usually vry fatal n unending. IG my ass,u've continue wit wot u did as CP in Pleatue State were u n ur bros killed Christians as u lik. God wil visit u.
ReplyDeleteThe man is acting on the advice of the Presidency. He purposely avoided his men waiting for him so as to look as if he is in a hurry.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, that is not an issue.
Let's call a spade a spade. †Ð½Ñ” IGs action is not exemplary of a leader period. If he's trying to distance himself from †Ð½Ñ” troubles of Rivers State he should have sent a delegate. Now that he chose otherwise and acted 'childishly' as he did not even honoring his own men that came out en mass to receive him and causing us to make all these comments, taking sides and what have you, he's no different from these politicians of our time.
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact! Informing those concerned including his men of his abrupt movement plans wouldn't make him less of a leader would it!
Quite unfortunate.
