Husbands will be scarce by 2023 – Women group

The National Council of Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria on Thursday warned against the alarming drop of male-child in education.

With the drop, the group noted that in the next 10 years, there would be a scarcity of quality husbands in the country.

The organisation National President, Chief Felicia Onyeabo, stated this on Thursday at a briefing to herald the inauguration of Cor Mariae College, Abuja. The inauguration holds on Friday (today).

She said, “The future of this country is going to be very bleak for the male-child. How many girls do you see hawking clothes? Go to Onitsha, they are all men. We have looked round and have come to see that there is a neglect of boys in education. Who are the armed robbers on the streets?  They are mostly the boys. Let us concentrate on training boys.

“The NCCWO feels that a vacuum is being created, and very soon, we shall be faced with a situation where our educated girl-child will not find a corresponding suitable boy-child to marry. This is because more boys drop out of school, apparently because the high rate of unemployed youth discourages our young boys from appreciating the need to be educated.

“The NCCWO also consideres the fact that in the near future, quality husbands will become extremely scarce, with too many highly educated women looking for husbands, and settling for anyhow husbands, just to get married. The result of this type of situation is better imagined and will not augur well for Nigerians.”

  5. I disagree with there analysis. In south, boys do the hawking. But in northern Nigeria, it is girls that does hawking to fend for her parent and at the same, search for husband. Which are scarce.

  6. Since male graduates are the main people suffering in Nigeria without securing a job, what do you expect? To be educated in Nigeria of today is a curse and taboo,it is better to start on time to look for a livelihood.

  7. Some of this problems are in the Bible, that times like this will come. But She has stated a very important issue that must be put into consideration by both parents and Government, that is if we really have government.

  10. Is that the next thing for the CATHOLICS? THEY SHOULD PRAY FOR THEIR POPE THAT has refused to read BIBLE,,,,, . Non-understanding of Bible, God words, and God spiritual contacts has been responsible for his support and interest in GAY tolerance in his churches. Its a big PITY.

  11. In my opinion, it is not a case of education it is more a case of poor grooming of male children and they have turned out to be lazy. Take a look of most homes in Nigeria while girls are trained and raised to be strong by engaging in several household chores, boys on the other hand are often unconsciously raised to be lazy as most of them never participate in household activities on the pretense that they are men. This is why you find so many girls can work for themselves and risk even their lives to survive. Today, unemployment is ravaging the society, the female child stands strong but the male will first feed on his ego before he thinks of how a whole him should do menial job to feed himself. A husband is a man of wisdom who will put in all effort to stand for himself and feed his family; and to achieve this is mostly a function of how he was raised which is often the role of mothers not schools. while mothers are training their girls to be good wives, they are also on the other hand indulging their boys who have mostly turned out lazy in search of white collar jobs which may never show up; so you've raised strong, homely, virgin daughter who cannot live in the homes of manner-less, overindulged, lazy man who can't feed himself and hoping that his wife should feed him. If there will be lack of well groomed well mannered men to become husbands , it is mostly a failure from homes not school. Mothers check your boys; are you raising lazy hands or grooming men who will stand the test of time?

    1. I don't know where you have gotten the wisdom to say this, but what you have said is right. Even my mother pampers me as an adult and doesn't want my to stress. I keep saying that women are mainly the cause of most of the terrible things they're going through.

    2. Not every parent raised their male child the way yours did.

  12. Thanks over there, catholic women are ignorant of what the book of Isaiah quoted ,the scripture must be fulfilled wether they train male child or not.
I pray every catholic to start studing the bible, because what that anti-christ beast in Rome that called himself pope said online worldwide news about( "who am I to judge the gays") is nothing to write home about.

Catholic faithfuls should shine their eyes with the GLORIOUS WORD OF GOD,and not following their leaders who didn't even belief what they profess!

The one they shot dead (pope)is where only God will tell,so be careful

    1. You need to go back to the drawing board and read your bible Mr man or woman. Christ said DO NOT JUDGE. He did not say you can judge guy people or anyother vice. Just like the pope said, he does not have any right to judge any one.you that is without sin can go ahead, judge and condemn and wait for the roth of God upon you.

  14. people of low mentality leaves the point of an argument to attack the church or persons. Consider the point on table. All those self acclaimed saints and Bible interpreters should take note. They have to study the history of the bible before they make ignorant comments. After all they cannot be more catholic than The Pope.

  15. Is not a matter of low mentality, saints or bible interpreter;but the truth ,the pope made a terrible comment which I believe u talking didn't hear on CNN

As for the topic is from Catholic and no other organisation so mind ur mouth ,and think before making a provocative comments. This is not a forum to alter the W0RD OF GOD

  17. Some men are useless anyway. What is the point of having a husband who cannot provide for his wife and children, is not interested in sex and does not provide companionship to his wife. On top of that some men are now gays and are running after other men's rectums. Most men and women have forgotten or simply does not know why they got married. It seems they are all doing it b'cos it is expected of them. Marriage unfortunately have lost its purpose in most cases. When you remove the reason for getting married, then marriage is no longer necessary. If there is no companionship, no sex, no financial support and your wife or husband is hardly ever home, you cannot call that marriage.
