FRSC to apprehend car owners with old number plates from October 1st

The FRSC in  Oyo State  on Wednesday  vowed  that  motorists driving vehicles with  old number plates would be apprehended and prosecuted as from October 1, 2013.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the state’s Sector Commander, Mr Godwin Ogagaoghene, said the validity of the old number plates would expire on September 30, 2013.

“I can assure you that from the first day in October, car owners still going about with the old number plates would be apprehended for violating the order.

“The cost of changing over from existing old number plates to the new is cheaper than if you are to obtain fresh number plates for cars that are to be newly registered.

“I, therefore, urge the public to ensure that they change over to the new number plates before October 1,” he said.

  2. FRSC, PLEASE, WHAT IS THE COST? I HAVE BEEN ASKING AND DIFFERENT FIGURES HAVE BEEN GIVEN. WHAT IS THE COST OF REPLACING THE OLD NUMBER PLATE WITH THE NEW ONE?

  3. What for, this is amount to cheating on the part of Nigerians!
Old plate numbers and new one can run together, once old one would no longer be issued, the newly registered vehicle would go for the new plate numbers, while old vehicle is disappearing from the street, new one keep on increasing..it is expected to be 10 years project ,with this the vehicle owners right will not be jeopardized.
Or alternatively the new plate numbers suppose to be free of charge for all old vehicles.
I'm still having old plate numbers,I don't have money to change over yet,no FRSC official can arrest me,unless they would die..

    1. I support you 100%. When i got the old number plate,. I was not told it would expire. I paid for it and if FSRC want to change it, then they should bear the cost. When CBN changed our naira notes, Nigerians were not asked to pay for it but just to take it to the bank and change it. Why is FRSC case different?. This is a case of exploitation and this should be challenge in court. Where is our human right and civil right lawyers?. Please post their contact info for us to engage them. Nigerians should not be taken for a ride any longer. Enough is enough!

  4. What is wrong with the old number plates? Who issued the old number plates? If there is need to change the old number plates, why can't it be done by phasing it out gradually with the registration of new vehicles? Or is there something we don't know? Is this another political settlement of some sort? Nigerians are waiting for FRSC to start the arrest NOW and see the consequence. October is too far. Enough of nonsense! We are no fools!!!

  5. It is only in Nigeria that things are done haphazardly and wickedly, to pay as much as #20,OOO OO for numbers plate then pay #8000.00 for drivers license and renew particulars of vehicle .the vehicle is not new but old, please all nigerian should ask him what is the difference between 25k and 35k. This men are not considerate and they think all of us has trees where we pluck money look many are managing their vehicle it just that some are under compulsion to have something to push us around.
not all of us are using mazaraty and jeeps or looting treachery nor taking bribes on the high way, some of us have not even being paid for 5 to 6 months in this country ie state teacher and local government officer there are so many private business people and many struggling in this country to survive.
the capital per head is less than 2dollar a day in Nigeria and peg it to for somebody to come and change a plate number just to renew for as much as 20 thousand some 25 thousand ,some 18 thousand ,how do you want Nigeria to be at peace.
My prayer is that all you that want us to live in pains in this country shall have pains all through your time here, unless you repent God will fight you all that are using opportunity to inflict pain and hardship on us all ......wicked men......WITH RIDICULOUS IDEAS

  7. This is a lazy organisation's way of raising money. They know Nigerian's are too timid to resist their oppressive laws. What is really the difference between the old and new numbers? I even prefer the old one as it is even more legible from a distance. It's a shame that we will not protest it. After 5-10 years, they will still force us to change this one and we will timidly obey!

  10. I think it's time to tell these people that the government we operate today is government of the people,by the people, for the people. Maybe this will just be the right time to correct a whole lot of other things. But it pains me that we Nigerians can take anything, just as the LEGEND FELA sang for us some time ago,'SUFFERING AND SMILING....Nothing go happen, worse things have been done to us & nothing happened.

  11. the arrest should better start in Maiduguri, damaturu, yobe then kano in that order. that will show how powerful is FRSC than police and millitary put together. arrant nonesense.

  13. Like someone rightly put it in these comments, we were not informed when we paid for the License plates that they would be expiring. For whatever reason they have to change them, it is the government that should bare the cost for replacing the old one.

My old License plate works fine for me, if the FRSC don't like it, they can replace it for me. I paid once and I'm not paying again!

  14. I believe the plate number change was required to make their job easier in creating a single database for all vehicles in the country. If that's the case, then its definately for a good cause. However, it is wrong to ask people who have paid for and already have plate numbers on their vehicles to pay again for another one. That is just cheating.

  15. It is very disrespectful to Nigerians to ask them to put out their hard earned Naira for something they have already paid for!! In case the FRSC and whoever approved this- have forgotten, they serve the people of Nigeria and it is not their place to bully or intimidate Nigerians

  16. We must stand together and resist this obvious act of disregard for the rights of Nigerians....We will be resisting the tyranny of terrible legislation.
We must fight against this for our rights...they can not prosecute us all, rather we will prosecute them
