Femi Fani-Kayode “expresses deep regrets” for mentioning Bianca Ojukwu, others in his article

Nigeria’s former minister of aviation under the President Obasanjo democratic government, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has expressed his regrets for mentioning the names of some Nigerians – of Igbo lineage – in his article that sought to present himself as not being a “tribalist.”

The part of the article where he mentioned his “intimacy” with the women did not go unnoticed to the general public. This statement sent by Chief Femi Fani-Kayode seeks to express the former minister’s regret.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode hereby expresses his deepest regrets for mentioning the names of three distinguished Nigerian ladies that he was once associated with in his last article titled ”A Word For Those Who Say I am A Tribalist”.

He meant no harm by doing so and neither did he at any point make references to having had any sexual relations with any of these ladies when they were associated with him as is being suggested by some members of the public. He was simply trying to emphasise the fact that he has nothing against the igbo people and that his friendship with these three ladies in particular over the years provided some evidence of that.

For the record he has not seen Madame Chioma Anasoh, Chief Adaobi Kate Uchegbu and Ambassador Bianca Onoh in many years and he admits that it was inappropiate for him to have mentioned their names in the essay, to use them as a point of reference in a public discussion or to make any references whatsoever to the nature of their past association. All references to them have been erased from the updated version of the essay.
Chief Fani-Kayode has reached two of the ladies concerned and he has personally conveyed his unreserved apology to them both and to their families for his indiscretion. He shall endeavour to reach the third lady to do the same in the next few days. Chief Fani-Kayode has nothing more to say on this matter and would prefer to remain focused on issues of national importance and not of a personal nature.

Mr. Bisi Lawal, Press Secretary to Chief Femi Fani-Kayode

  5. This is how to show that you come from a cultured home. FFK was being humble for the apology, signifying that he is from a cultured home. Others like the people being referred to will never apologise even if they are wrong. They will always claim to know it all, hence arrogance, their modus operandi. FFK is telling the world that he is human, there fore not claiming to know it all, except GOD ALMIGHTY who knows it all. Up till now nobody from that part of the world has given meaningful response signifying the truth about the Igbos. Even the so called Ezekwesili who will only be happy if FFK is arrested. May be they are still researching before they can reply. Go to the market place, Igbo man is ever ready to drag you to come and buy their wares, knowing full well that market is a place where choices abound. What a forceful way of looking for buyer. The love for money amongst the Ndigbo is something else. A hausa, Yoruba and indeed other ethnic group are not known for this kind of illiterate trading. Do you know your history in the past hundred years? Food for thought.

    1. Abigail, you must realise an umpire is never taken from the competing sides. You don't seem to recognise all the responses given to FFK on his write up. Which probably made him realise how erroneous it was for him to have mentioned the names of certain IBO ladies. He' all soon realise the rest of the flaws in his write up. Maybe you'll graduate him from cultured to HOLY FFK. We are going nowhere as a Nation with all these impressions about ourselves. All humans have errors & as far as I'm concerned all these faults you find with the Ibos can also be found within other tribes,so we should stop judging others. God gave us no right to do such...... Chris Abara.

  11. No matter what a man accomplishes in life, if he is not prudent, all his achievements are balderdash. Femi Fani-Kayode has proved that in spite of his enormous talents and achievements, he still lacks the ultimate quality of a real man. ‘’PRUDENCE’’ Although a lot of damages has been done, most especially to Femi’s bright and promising career in politics, bad blood and bigoted sentiment rejuvenated between Yoruba people and Ndi-Igbo just because of Femi’s loud and toxic mouth. I can only ask that people forgive and forget. Femi is just a weak young man who unfortunately capitulates easily to the emotions and frustrations in Nigeria.

  15. kayode its unthinkable for you to have use ladies as a defence to claims that you are a tribalist.you should have pointed out your relationship with the men too because when it comes to sexual relationships ethnicity doesnt count.i suppose you wanted to let the world know you had a sexual relationship with those beautiful women regardless of the commotion that comes along.

Even though some fellows were offended, i believe they hav learnt their history. They claim to have come from Isreal but the Isrealis do not know them. It is a clear mark of greed or confusion. Now they know where they belong

  21. This shows that FFK was heavily on hard drug when he was vomiting those rubbish. Once a drug addict always drug addict.
However, to my Igbo brothers and sisters, We should take a lot of hints from ffk's mouth leakage and work with it in our future relationship with the Yorubas both in Yoruba land and in our respective home states.

    1. Try as much as you can to evict Ibos from Lagos,it will be interesting to see what Lagos will be without IBOS and other non Lagosians even if they abandon for you all their assets(which is your cheap target). Yoruba, cowards as always,go into action & stop making noise. The value of Lagos today lies on the visitors all over Lagos. Una dey pay house rent? Chase your visitors away & die of hunger. I DARE YOU ALL TO DO SOMETHING NOW. FOOLS!

  28. he has acted responsibly and said sorry for mentioning and not denying his association with this people in the past. he indeed has retraced his steps. but some other people cannot say responsibly that they are sorry for encroaching and claiming people's land, space, oil and lying about false contributions to Nigeria. the only place they contribute is to themselves and their brothers. I expect d bold step of an apology to Nigeria for starting a war and to there own people for leading them into deaths, poverty and disgrace. these disgrace is still far reaching out and hunting d Igbo extraction till this day and d future.

  30. An independent observer, who is neither Yoruba or Igbo , from all the write ups and responses can conclude rightly as follows: Of the two groups, one is cultured, objective, factual and humble enough to admit mistakes and see both the positive and negatives of their tribe, the other group is crude, rude and empty, unwilling to acknowlege or accept responsibility for the facts of their history and address both the positives and negatives of their tribe so as to be guided for the future. I leave it to ur concience to identify each group and be wisely guided in your dealings with each group in future.

  31. MR FANI KAYODE, I accept your apology and salute your courage for being honest. I call on our own leaders in Ndigbo - Peter Obi, and Orji Kalu who started this fire to follow this example , admit their mistakes, apologize and douse the fire on this matter. That is the right thing to do.

  33. The ones with a history of cannibalism first among themselves and OSU sacrifices to there demi gods. with a very short life span owing to there terrible past had to leave there land to encroach on people's spaces to prosper.
They truly owe Nigerians an apology for starting the dominance war called biafra and apologize to themselves for betraying there own people to there deaths.

  36. I sincerely do not understand all the hoopla from some commentators on this Lagos matter, and Igbos claiming any part of Yoruba land. They make it sound like Igbos go into people's land and physically take them over, and claim as theirs. Truth is, land, like any other commodity, is traded by the owner, in exchange for money, either as rent, or outright sale. So, pray, tell, where's the encroachment. People are blowing hot air about any Igbo saying they own Lagos. Is it logical, to make undiscerning Yoruba lose sleep.
As for Femi Fani-Kayode, I think that at this stage of this debate, he should best be ignored. I thought he'd been cured of his long drug addiction, for which he was in Ghana to be dried out for a long time. He obviously is still snorting the stuff. In fact, I believe he's descended lower, to cheaper stuff, like crack, and glue.
As for the person with the Abigail pseudonym above, please tell us the history of the Igbo in the past 100 yrs, that you keep talking about. I promise you that you'll choke on your Igbo phobia, sooner than later, with your ilk.

  37. femi is a complete and a responsible Yoruba man that is speaking on behalf of all the Yoruba as a race, so i don't see anything bad in all his write-ups as far as i am concerned, all his words shall manifest in this country very soon and i can assure all of you that has been writing against him that you all shall lick your wounds soon, is anything bad in a man defending his biological race? please someone should tell all the igbos in every part of the Yoruba land to prepare for total humiliation from the Yoruba, we shall know who is a coward very soon..., this message to the igbos is coming from the Yoruba youth forum based in on of the Yoruba states in Nigeria...

  39. I'm sure the Ibos don't have youths. No be today una mouth making start & e no fit end. True as you have said we shall know who d cowards are. Yorubas are the only Nigerian tribe that fight with every thing around him with so much fanfare before throwing a punch at his adversary,if he ever will. You guys should just pray this doesn't boil down to anything physical. Most of you will flee to your neighbouring Benin Republic. Better control this b4 it gets out of hand.

  44. All things work together for good. Let my brothers, the Igbos now realize that charity starts from home.
Go and develope ur various States which u can call your own any day, any time, and let Lagos be ur 2nd home or else.
May hare while the sun shines. I ve been in Lagos for years. Many Yorubas are wonderful friends till tomorrow except very few who are not too comfortable with their perceived Igbo domination of some sectors of the Lagos economy, and it is understandable.
Fain Femi K should real apologize to the children, husbands, etc of those precious ladies he named, it's damaging emotionally, & psychologically.
How wud u feel someone mentioning how he "had INTIMATE affair" with ur mother, or wife, and d whole world is reading?
We all know what u mean, or else why didn't,t you name some Igbo Sons as u did those ladies?
Really, to be educated is far from being wise, and receiving JESUS as ur LORD into ur life is far from allowing HIM exercise HIS LORDSHIP over one,s life or else a Child of GOD, Spirit filled & led wouldn't,t have written what my brother in Christ wrote, he should allow someone not yet born again to do so: he knows men would give account of every idle word on d LAST DAY.

  47. Everybody read 'things fall apart'by the illustrious chinua achebe and also read 'without a silver spoon' from another authour ,quite an interesting read. I learnt from the passages of this books part of ndigbo core history.
firstly from things fall apart that the eastern part of Nigeria is filled with many COWARDS and a coward even fathered d great okonkwo in d story.(history of cowards).
secondly, I found out d prayer pattern of the ndigbos in without a silver spoon, when ure chokwes father spat (kelebe) six times into his son's mouth while praying for him before embarking on a journey.
I sincerely find it utterly barbaric and disgusting.
please me know about this books if you read them too.
please no stupid comments from a arsewipe.
