Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday in Abuja began the questioning of former Governor of the central state of Kwara, Bukola Saraki on fraud allegations related to his tenure as the chief executive of Kwara State.
NigerianEYE learnt that Saraki, now a Senator reported to the Abuja headquarters of the anti-graft agency on Monday morning.
The office of the former Governor had earlier confirmed that it received an invitation from EFCC while the Senator was away on lesser Hajj.
The former governor was still under interrogation late on Monday and it was not certain whether he will be allowed to go home today.
It was gathered that the anti graft agency had been investigating the Senator over some major matters related to his management of Kwara State treasury for eight years when he was governor.
Some sources also indicated that the former Governor is also being quizzed over allegations of receiving illegal pension from his successor in Kwara State.
The former Governor, it was learnt, is also being grilled by EFCC operatives over allegations that he contributed to the collapse of the defunct Societe Generale Bank where he was the executive director before his emergence as Kwara State chief executive in 2003.
