Atiku, 9 Govs Float New Party

There are indications that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and nine governors have sent an application to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the registration of a new political party.

Sources said the documents for the registration of the new party to be known as the Peoples Progressive Movement, PPM, are currently being scrutinised by INEC.

Some of the governors who joined Atiku to form the party include Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors dissatisfied with the leadership style of the Chairman of the party, Bamanga Tukur, and the insistence by President Goodluck Jonathan to go for a second term.

They are Governors Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa).

Others are Garba Umar, acting governor of Taraba State; Abdufatah Ahmed of Kwara State and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State.

A source close to INEC revealed that the new party should have been registered along with the All Progressives Congress, APC, but INEC delayed the registration “for strategic reasons.’

Other politicians said to be sympathetic to the new party include the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal and some federal legislators.

When P.M.NEWS contacted Atiku’s spokesman, Shehu Garba, on the development, he neither denied nor confirmed it.

He simply promised to get back to us but could not before we went to press.

Atiku recently kicked against the exclusion of his name from the list of PDP delegates from Adamawa State for the party’s national convention on Saturday, 31 August, 2013.

It was not clear if Atiku would actualise his presidential ambition by contesting on the platform of the new party if it is eventually registered by INEC.

  12. Hmmmm everybody here is right with ur point of view but nigerian political problem has gone very far from the way people are seeing it. In 20011 it were some people that supported the incumbent with the promise that he will not recontest inwhich he d president confirm now he changes his mind to go for second term because of his selfish interest. Take a look at the party people think is for them renders educated fellow useless and embraces the drop out, taout, hooligance etc inwhich these people are making a lot of money from there government and @ d end of the day u see them infront of their favorite musician and be spending d money anyhow cos they don't know d worth. In this same party we find one governor celebrating his birthday with almost 60million or more than that and their state people are living below $2 par day yet people are still praising them cos they don't open people's eyes to what's happening. The rulling party is worst they party that says is for the masses is bad then where to turn to. My conclusion I will rather implore nigerians to keep saying to ourselves that God bless nigeria everyday we wakeup. We are not praying for them but only praying for ourselves let's leave them to continue displaying their stupidity. When its time for them to account for what they are doing they will look for tears they will not get it. One rich man in a very poor family that is all of them are poor.

  13. Hmmmh. We r yet to undastand wat d bible really teaches abt human ruling themselves. Dts d reason y Jesus Christ encourages us to pray for God's kingdom to come, bcos ds kingdom is d only solution to man's problems. Pls, go nd study d book of first king very well, wen d Israelites demanded for a king frm God tru Samuel. God's reply? Satan is d ruler of ds world. All human govt r his tools. Only those dt strongly bliv dt God is d rightful ruler of ds universe would hv peace nd prospect of enjoyn is richness.

  16. Nigerian youths, can i sugest something? Can we organise all Nigeria Youth forom that is not under any political party & without influence of any politician?
Maybe through internet we organise everybody to fight all this criminals in goverment.
Because if we fold our hands & keep on talking talking, fighting for our ethnics, religions & tribes we will remain like this.

If we refuse to fight them because one Senator, Minister, Governor President e.t.c is from my family, kindred, town, L.G.A, constiency or State that means Nigeria will never move forward or may divide. Its only when youths come together & say enough is enough to all this greedy & heartless politicians that we will have a better future for this country. From ONYEMAUCHE ONYEBUCHI

  18. From my observations,it's time Nigerians forgot about this party thing & take a critical look at people who prospect to get into leadership positions in this country. In the past, when leadership responsibilities are imposed on people, they weep bcos they know they're to be servants to the people, they know know are nothing but sacrificial lambs to the people they are to lead. This are the virtues that has endeared the MADIBA,Nelson Mandela to his people today. Even in torment he stood his grounds for his people. Today,I don't know how many of you see the real intention to serve in all these people clamouring at the power corridors of this Nation. If I am to speak,I will say the fault is ours the electorate. It is when you know where you're going that you'll know when you 're being misled. A quarter of the things that happen in this country did not happen in countries where there are political unrest today. We swallow everything because we don't even know what we want. No wonder we sell our votes for as low as a bottle of beer,4 cubes maggi & a measure of salt. Our ignorance is the only reason why our politicians play us the way even the football has never been played in the round leather game. Take a litmus test in our political environment, stop a group of people in political rally, ask them to tell you the MANIFESTO of their party & why they think it's going to be beneficial them. You will be stunned at the level of Naivety & ignorance amongst our folks. Our people retain no past,as even convicts & people are obvious social treats come out, contest & win elections in my country. The moral standards of my people can only be compared to that of animals, most animals are even more virtuous than us. Today if you after holding a public office in Nigeria and you didn't steal enough to show for it,your people & the society will almost reject you. So many have been kicked out of office or even framed with grievous offences only because they prevented someone or some people from misappropriating public funds. And even cases that were so open, nobody cares. We all should feel some reasonable amount of guilt to the social & political status of this Nation.
We must somehow forget about collective efforts and make sincere individual efforts to save this Nation. Every effort no matter how small is important. Start by speaking out & acting out the good part of you.....Chris Abara.

  19. The more parties the merrier in a proper democratic setting. However I suspect that these gentlemen may inadvertently hand over power back to GEJ by splitting the bulk Northern votes that may have gone to Buhari and the APC. Lets watch the game.
Its about time OBJ gathers his political troops to fight the real political battle of his life because if either Buhari or Atiku wins, hmm I see him cooling off the rest of his natural life in Bama prisons!
