BARELY one week after the three corps
members were abducted from their lodge in Ogonokom, Abua/Odual Local
Government Area, their whereabouts are still unknown.
The corps members (two males and one
female) were taken away by their abductors from the Corpers’ Lodge
around 12am on June 29, 2013.
The hoodlums had gained entry into the
corpers’ lodge 20 minutes after they had turned off the generator
supplying electricity to the building.
Though the corps members’ captors had demanded N20m ransom, nothing was said about the time they would be released.
The abducted corps members, who were
taken away through the riverside in Abua, were identified as Ogochi
Martins, Chijioke Richard and Esther Nwachukwu.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe, confirmed that the abducted corps members were yet to be released.
Agabe said the command had intensified search for them with a view to ensuring that they regained their freedom without harm.
She explained that those involved would be apprehended and made to face the consequence of their action.
Also, the Abua/Odual local government
Chairman, Mr. Udi Odum, who expressed worry over the non-release of the
corps members, prayed that the incident would be the last in the area.
Odum stated that he ordered the
relocation of other corps members after the incident to a safe place,
adding that the Ominima lodge was far away from the riverside, which
kidnappers used as their route.
The council chairman said there were plans to erect a fence at the new corps members lodge to enhance their security.
“We are planning to erect a fence and
other necessary things that will ensure the safety of the corps members
at Ominima. We had to move them from Ogolokom to Ominima so that they
would be far away from the riverside,” he said.
