Lagos State Governor Mr. Babatunde
Fashola says his administration is not going back on its earlier promise
to complete a large number of outstanding projects in the state by the
end of 2013.
The governor said this on Sunday during
the inspection of Eric Moore Government College project in Iganmu and
the 1008 Housing Estate project in Ijora-Badiya.
Fashola said, “The ethos of this year’s
budget is to conclude as many projects as possible during the budget
year. We cannot finish all the projects that we started, but we will
conclude as many of them as we can.”
The governor said the 1,008 Housing
Estate was a sign of development, especially in Ijora. He added that
Commissioner for Works, and his Housing and Agriculture counterparts had
explained to the community that they had been living on “what is
essential an illegal refuse dump. This quality of life is not acceptable
in this state,” and something must be done.
He said, “We are planning to build 1008
housing units here of about 21 blocks. We have decided to start with six
blocks and the reason is that we want to do it gradually so that the
pain and the discomfort will be minimized.”
Fashola, who expressed displeasure with
the delay of Eric Moore Government College project, said the contractor
had been “less than efficient” and had not been carrying out the project
according to time schedule.
He said, “The reality, actually, is that
about two months ago I realized that the contractor has been less than
efficient. We are in the process of getting a new contractor. I hope
that we can conclude that quickly before the end of the long vacation.”
