Soldiers manning a check point leading
to the Kaduna State Government House yesterday beat up a mobile
policeman over his alleged refusal to obey rules.
It was gathered that as the policeman
struggled to regain possession of his motorcycle from soldiers at the
check-point, about 10 soldiers arrived the scene and took away the
motorcycle.
“They were here with an armoured tanker as if there was war here. I picked a passenger who is a military man from NDA and when we got to the check-point, we all came down from the motorcycle. But when the police man came, he did not stop and the soldiers beat him up,” an Achaba rider who was at the scene said.
“We observed that since morning, even military men in uniform would stop and push their motorcycles the same way we (the Achaba people) push our motorcycles at this check point and it’s a good idea. But a situation where a law is imposed, and some people refuse to obey it is not good,” another Achaba man said.
When contacted, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 1 Division headquarters, Col. Sani Usman, said the issue was minor and that it had been resolved.
