EBONYI State Police Command has arrested one Stephen Okolie Chukwu with fake N1 million notes.
Command's spokesperson, DSP Sylvester Igbo, who made the disclosure during a briefing, said the suspect was arrested in Abakaliki on July 4, 2013, when he came to a Bureau De Change to convert N1 million denominations to US Dollars.
Igbo stated that on close examination of the currency notes by the bureau de change operator, who suspected that the notes were fake, lured the suspect to a bank (name withheld) where the money was confirmed to be fake by the bank management.
He noted that the item recovered from the suspect include fake N1million notes. He said the suspect had begun assisting the police in its investigation.
The suspect, who confessed to the crime, told newsmen that he bought the N1 million notes from one Ugoo who is based at Oguta , Imo State, at the rate of N150, 000.
Meanwhile, the State Police Command gave motorist in the state 13 days ultimatum to renew their vehicle particulars, change fake number plates or be arrested.
"The command has observed with dismay the indiscriminate use of vehicle/motorcycle without number plates and fake numbers plates".
