Orji Kalu Threatens To Sue Fashola Over Igbo Maltreatment By Lagos

Former governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu has given the Lagos State Government a seven day ultimatum to offer an apology to the allegedly deported 67 person of Igbo heritage or he will head to court.

Orji Kalu criticized the action of the Lagos State government as lawless and vexatious and further said that it threatens the corporate existence of the country and there was no law in the country, that gives a state or governor power to deport any Nigerian citizen to any part of the country.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, Kalu said there was right to freedom of movement for every Nigerian as enshrined in Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution.

Besides, the former governor argued that it was an open secret that the Igbo contribute about 55 per cent to the Lagos economy.

“It is appalling to learn that the deported Igbo were even detained in Ikorodu for about six months before their illegal deportation.

“They were taken to Onitsha in four buses, escorted by anti-riot policemen,” he said.

One of them, Osondu Mbuto, a trader from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State, was on his way to his shop on December 18, 2012 when he was arrested by officials of the state’s Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and detained for no reason until he was deported in his father’s land.

“The reaction of the state government that the Igbo were deported to reunite them with their families was the worst insult to any race.

“Governor Fashola’s Special Adviser on Youths and Social Development, Dr. Enitan Dolapo Badru, said: ‘The end result is to reunite them back with their families.’

“What an affront against the collective will of Ndigbo or any other race in Nigeria to live and do business in any part of the country?

“The action of the state government is not only wicked but a clear breach of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

“To worsen the matter, most of those deported are not even indigenes of Anambra State. Is Anambra State now a dumping ground for any act of illegality? Is Lagos State Government above the law of the country? If not, can it operate another set of laws without recourse to constitution amendment? Is it not a travesty of justice that officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) were even used for this illegal act against the Nigerian state? Was the supervising officer, who allowed the deployment of the policemen, not told that they were going to be used for the deportation of Nigerians they were paid by tax payers’ money to protect in their fathers’ land?

“The action is a gross infraction to the rights of the deportees to dwell in any part of Nigeria without discrimination. With this wicked, crude and primitive deportation, I just wonder why a component unit of Nigeria, under the authority and supremacy of a constitution would choose to be lawless in such an unconstitutional conduct. Not even under the military would such an action have happened.

“Even if a criminal offence was committed, the place to take them to is the court, not for them to be deported. The action of the Lagos State Government is lawless as it is vexatious and I condemn it in strong terms because it threatens the existence of our country. All patriotic Nigerians should say no to this xenophobic action of Lagos State Government because it usurps the powers of the federal government and disregards our constitution.

“I demand a public apology from the governor within seven days to all those illegally deported and a repeat of such an act must be stopped or I will head to court to defend the interest of the Ndigbo in Lagos. Enough is enough.

    2. I hope and pray that one day, Nigerians will unite not bcos of ethnicity, religion or language but in principles and values. Let us all have the same definition of "what is right". Let us not be unnecessarily petty and aggressive, taking sides with what is wrong just to protect our brother or sister.let us choose the Right side whether we find a Hausa man or Igbo or yoruba there. That's how nations move forward..not by segration or bias. I beg u all. Forget your ethnicity and let values and principles be our guide and anthem. God bless Nigeria.

    4. A  40-year-old man, Kenneth Ekeh, was on Tuesday sentenced by an Ibadan Magistrates’ Court sitting at Iyaganku  to 15 years imprisonment over N210,000 fraud.

Magistrate Kehinde Omotosho convicted Ekeh of  three charges including obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

Omotosho  did not give the convict option of fine.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Sunday Ojeleye, said that the defendant was arraigned on a five-count charge which  included  obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

Ojeleye said that Ekeh specialises in stealing gas cylinders  and defrauding people, adding that he was arrested on  Nov. 11,  2011.

That is a typical igbo man for you. They steal, rob and dupe. They should be cleaned off the streets of Lagos. They are a big source of embarrasment to this country when they go abroad. They are the scum of the Nigerian society. No wonder they cant stay in their place, they have nothing. A whole bunch of low witted illiterates.

Crime Alert gathered that Chukwueze was arrested in Abuja by operatives of the EFCC penultimate Friday, after more than two months’ frantic manhunt for him.  His arrest followed an allegation of fraudulent transactions involving him and a notable Bureau de Change operator in Lagos on May 10, 2013.

  12. Its a wrong notion to believe that without Igbos Lagos will not grow. In the contrary the more Igbos U've any where, the more ills. They love to do in other people's state what they will never allow others to do in theirs. The non Igbos leaving in igbo states can testify. Even the igbos that have leaved outside find it difficult to leave again with igbos. An average igbo man is selfish, arrogant, wicked, callous, unreliegious even though he pretends to be, by his constant & regular church attendance & frequent gospel music.
Even among the the south eastern states they are not in unity; Enugu has chased Anambra b4, Abia chased Imo, Ebonyi doesn't want to see Anambra, etc. U need to leave with a stack igbo to understand.
Only law abiding people should be allowed to stay wherever, otherwise ....

One wonders if some of these idiots ever saw the four walls of even a primary school. @ Mr Kalu, pls concentrate on enhancing the lives of your people to make your state a model one like lagos. For clarification, deporting a few miscreants hardly qualifies as xenophobia;most importantly when one considers that similar scenerios have played out even with jobless Yorubas in Lag. Why must Igbos see discrimination in every action?! Please move on from the days of Biafra! No thanks to the Achebes of this world for promoting hate.

  15. Nigeria should be a nation that is void of tribalism, we ought to be patriotic and have love for one another. We have no other country except this nation. When South Africa, Ghana and other African and European nations will oppress our people who resides there, we should not do same here, but let us find peace and solace in any part or Geo-political zone of this nation. Divided we are sand, but together we are ROCK.

  16. Excuse me friends; i am a proud Igbo man and will always remain grateful to God for creating me as an Igbo person. Chief Orji Uzoh Kalu's call should not be seen as nothing. Go through all he said i think he has a good case. If there is any reason to deport certain group of people out from lagos; the court should decide that and the reasons being made public. I own a shop in lagos island mandilas to be precise and am a very successful person and my business is legitimate. Do you know that for every of my containers that are unloaded each time; i pay some amount of money to the so called Alaye boys as not to disrupt my goods. I mean heavy amount but even when you report to the authorities; they the Alayes installed them in office. So where is Governor Fasola's moral justification to now say that some people are not good for lagos. Lets call a spade a spade, if such thing was done to the yorubas in the past and they never complained, its not wrong for another tribe to complain on the incident.Fashola is working yes but should also make alternative arrangement for lots of people that he has rendered useless and hopeless in pursuit to make lagos a small london. The Whites always have plan A and B before executing any project that will affect or help grow their economy. Leave Orji Uzoh Kalu alone but say your mind with modest honesty. thanks

    1. Lagos isn't like abuja.Lagos does belong to d aworis and they know each other.when d earlier settlers 1st came to lagos they met some settlers that were indeginious lagosians. When lagos became d capital of lagos, too many ppl migrated to lagos seeking employment. They have procreate and they believe they r lagosians as well.It is this kind of sentiments and altitude from ppl like u that ticks off a lot of lagosians and make them feel ppl like u should go back to your state. While actions such like what I just mentioned has no place in our society, one still has to weigh every angle in other to come to an objective conclusion.Igbo ppl are know to be one of d most tribalistic ppl among d Nigerian tribes.A perfect example was during my nysc years and d zonal director told me that even though she was d head in d abuja office, she carried no weight as d place was populated by igbos as soon as an igbo man was appointed as d overall head. This has been d case in customs and immigration services as well when an igbo man is d controller general. This kind of altitude will not move nigeria forward just like fashola's altitude is despicable as well.Yoruba are equally tribalistic as well.obj was a perfect leader for naija even though he was just as corrupt but a case of d best devil. He wasn't tribalistic, awolowo was and we don't need that in naija. It hasn't gotten us anywhere.Politicians feeds on this, perfect case of divide and conquer.i hate touts extorting money from hard working igbos in lagos just as much as despise the notion that our native son must be d next man in aso rock.jonathan is from d south south,i wonder how that is serving them right now.The militants r quiet not because he is doing a good job but because he is paying criminals not to engage in any nefarious activities.i laugh when I see novice arque that d boko haram issues is all about religious tolerant.Nigerians are one of the most intelligent ppl on earth but we have shown repeatedly that we unleach our furies recklessly on each other around tribal lines. The boko harams wants anmenesty too,if u are going to reward criminals from one region, others will follow like d pure water business when they now know crime pays.a militant in d south south is being paid about #75,000 naira a month while a youth copper is barely making #20,000.now which career looks profitable should be d question.once they give boko haram ammnesty, other region militants will spring up as well hoping for the same settlement.our economy can't support this frivolous and reckless spending.Criminals should be rewarded with jail sentence and capital punishments if d crime fits d billings.Rewarding criminals isn't d bane of any thriving democracy, while we are worried about d nonsence we r all spewing here or that which is being spewed by caan(icaan) or other Muslim organisation to rev up religious sentiment,d politicians r cleaning out d country resources.Shine ur eyes ppl n get over this tribal nonsence,it has served neither region well.

  21. Is Nigeria a geographical country or a nation? I think we are not a nation. We are just people that are forced to be living together. If we can't live together in peace let us divide and go our separate ways. It seems we would never understand each other... Selfishness has eaten so deep into our veins. Somebody says I am a proud Igbo man! Who isn't a proud yoruba or Hausa man? The spade that we need to call spade is that we can't live 2geda bcos of our selfish ambitions. Then let's divide so every part be responsible for their growth and success and we would still be proud Igbos, yorubas and Hausas living in peace and freedom. I only pity d middle beltans. And d xtians in d North. There certainly is a solution for Nigeria. Am tired of hearing the cries of woes and marginalizations especially from d Igbos. You guys need to grow up. And fast. You are so resourceful but u won't use it to build your states. U only make money from Lagos so u can build a villa in d village and dats all. Or buy the most expensive car. U choose not to look around you and find the needs of your people so u can meet them. All u do is make noise, point accusing fingers on d other tribes for causing your woes. Can't u resolve to go back home and rebuild your cities like the Jews did. Afterall you are the Jews of Nigeria. If Lagos were to be in d east, the likes of Dangote will not thrive. The Adenugas n Otedolas will not survive. As accomodating as Lagos is, do not forget that it is not your home. How many eastern state can a yoruba man contest election yet Lagos is liberal enough to do so. Pls give it to us... Yorubas are the most accomodating, free minded ethnic group in Nigeria and that's why they progress. Jonathan's governement grossly marginalised the Yorubas. No yoruba in the top 3 offices in Nigeria;President and Vice president, Senate president and Deputy Senate President, Speaker and Deputy speaker. Can Igbo pple or Hausa take that? No. Pls forget year ethnicity and let BRF do what is right. Mr Mandillas, the Baba Alayes in Lagos are wooven in d fabric of Lagos...It will take BRF and more people to correct that.Don't worry with time Small London will be actuialised not only in aesthetic but also in processes, MOUs, values and what have you. I do not think person like Orji Kalu's voice should be recognized in this country.

He governed Abia state for almost a decade but Abia state still remains the dirtiest and lawless state in this country; he is a tout belief me.

Go everywhere in the whole world and see what Igbos are doing; busy denting the image of this country. Go to Port Harcourt, you can't rest because of Igbos, go to Kano, Maiduguri, Yola, Lagos just everywhere or are they an outcast?

Just a simple thing, Fashola did it to Yorubas in order to build Lagos.

Are u not happy with the present situation in Today's Lagos?

In the process of building a nation, Human rights must be officially abused besides, Fashola provided them with enough medical aids and all that. El Rufai tried to build FCT 4king Amushu were busy complaining.

  27. To the anonymous guy above,u made a very valid point.i am a Yoruba man myself and I kind of opposed to this as well. While I feel the lagos state government have good intentions by deporting all this chadians and foreigners constituting a nuisance in lagos, they have however went about it in the wrong way here. You can't just pick up a Nigerian citizen inrespective of his tribe and deport him to his state without his consent.Reading through this thread I am so afraid for my country.i don't see our country getting better if what I am reading is a hint of the mentality of the whole masses. We are so quick to blame the government when we ourself are divided around tribal line. The man above made a valid point about those bastard alaye boys extorting money from him for unloading his container.I am a lagosians,i can honestly tell u that in most cases, those ppl aren't from lagos but from other south western part of nigeria.Alot of them where born in lagos of other state origin.A lot of lagosians know each other by their last names,we have the dosumu, the adele, onikoyi, bashua, bajulaiye, oniru, olumegbon, ojora, kosoko, the fernades, the benjamins(repatriated. Nigerian from Brazil who inhabited the campus areas of lagos),the maiyeguns, obanikoro, the shitta abeys, the salako, jinadu, aromire etcalot of them have moved out of the island because it isn't d place we all grew up in.alot of the houses u see on lagos mainland are still owned by them but inhabited by a lot of this traders from other southwest part of nigeria. Some of this ppl's(not all) have become nuisance in lagos and extorting hard working ppl of their hard earned money. They do this under the pretence of being a lagosian etc.i feel the government need to do somethings about this. They should be deported to wherever the he'll they came from as they are not contributing to the development of lagos state.Growing up in lagos,i have know the igbos to be traders and hardworking people, though they have been synanimous with selling inferior items or fake items, but u can't hate the hussle.I don't find them as a threat nor do I find anyone from other tribe as a threat just as long as they don't constitute a nuisance to d society.I feel the alaye/touts are more of a threat to our young democracy. Now that's an issue that is worth looking into if we are to have a small London in lagos. You can't have a small London in lagos when u have Indian hemp smoking bastard running around and stabbing ppl and extorting money from tax paying law abiding citizens and traders.

  28. Interesting points of view, never mind that some are based on nothing but sentiment.

    1. If Fashola truly "deported" fellow Nigerians as reported, then he should be called to order for trampling on their fundamental rights. However, each case should be treated on its own merit - ie those who break the law should face the music.

    2. Orji Uzor Kalu has lost moral ground to make any noise on the issue because he failed to develop Abia state during his tenure as governor. Instead, he squandered the resources of the state & Abians are the worst for it. Let his suporters list his achievements in Abia.

    3. We all need to remind ourselves that it is not necessary to cry wolf when there is none. Are all the inhabitants of Lagos engaged in legitimate businesses? We all believe that we must live in cities to make it while opportunities waste away in the other parts of the country. The real challenge is the lack of infrastructure which is a failure of successive governments as a result of greed & selfishness (corruption) on the part of the government & the governed.

    4. The solution is for everyone to do what is right & eschew greed, selfishness, corruption, & all other ills. Remember that some Nigerians have spouses from other tribes and have therefore made input towards uniting this nation. Nobody will develop our nation for us.

    Long live Nigeria.

  30. Why cant we call a spade a spade? The problem of this country from inception is this lethargy towards the truth especially when we think that another tribe suffers. What fashola did was wrong and should be deprecated.I am core igbo, but that is not the point now,the truth is.Lets speak a little truth here;what we today regard as lagos which the yorubas are so proud of is a collective effort of all nigerians who wanted to develop a befitting capital for the country.OSHOGBO is a state capital just as Abeokuta, ibadan, akure etc,why are the yorubas not boasting about these state capitals?Because they dramatize the true competence of the core yoruba.Remove the bridges, the high-rise buildings, the various government facilities and establishments built by the federal government, remove the markets, the various estates developed by other tribes especially the igbos, all u see is an empty swampy forest, another oshogbo,Adoekiti,Akure etc,a typical yoruba state capital. What a shame! It is also true that the igbos did not come to lagos because of the yorubas,no,after all, they make up 60/100 of thepopulation of lagos(see the records). On the contrary, the igbos were forced to come to lagos by the ill conceived policies of the government which concentrated every thing in the capital(lagos-former capital).Stop creating this stupid impression that the igbos cant live together, all you need do is pay a short visit to the south east towns of ONITSHA,NNEWI,ABA,OWERRI,ENUGU,ABAKALIKI,AWKA,UMUAHIA ETC,and purge yourselves of that erroneous belief. The igbo is the most progressive of all the tribes in Nigeria, the igbo is the tribe with the highest literacy level in Nigeria,if you disbelieve it,pay a visit to any core yoruba state and you will be surprised at what you will see.It is also the truth that more than 70percent of the buildings in lagos and Abuja belong to the igbo, the list can go on and on and on-and such achievements naturally elicit envy and jealousy from people around. No wonder the igbo is the most despised in nigeria.OH YES,the kite is always envious of the position of the Eagle!Did you know that it is recorded in the Guinness book of record that the igbo has the quikest recovery the world over after an excruciating civil war?If you re an igboman, rejoice and be glad for you re a special creature. Is this not the same igbo that went their own way in 1967 and were forced back into the sick union call nigeria by force of arms?It is equally the truth that the effete yorubas living in the north always run to igbo enclaves in times of crisis for protection, and they are protected by the brave Biafrans. Please let the igbo man be for no amount of persecution can take away the man in him.THANK GOD AM AN IGBO!

  33. One of the things that baffle me most is that all seek evictionof d Ibos from other geopolitical zones claiming all sorts of evil perpetrations. But each time the IBO man seek to be given his own sovereign Nation, they are refused freedom & are even arrested no matter how peaceful they go about it. In my own humble opinion, I think the Ibos are not making enough efforts. There's one experiment I would have suggested we all embark on. If all Ibos could accept to sacrifice all it takes to withdraw all their business & industrial activities from all other regions & relocate totally to the EAST. Let's all see how it goes. It may surprise you that this may be the most effective weapon that can be used in this particular dispensation. Let all man stay in his region. Abusing one another will make no positive impact on this issue,so my pple, stop unnecessary use of foul language. We've made the mistakes already,we should spend more time thinking of how to make amends. Even Fashola knows the impact the presence of Ibos has on d economy of Lagos State. There's no part or tribe of the world that don't have inadequacies & excesses. When u talk about the Yorubas, you can hardly survive within d areas where they pre predominantly occupy bcos of their flithy ways of life. Every tribe have theirs. And those of you talking about the Ibo region,no IBO man will stop any other tribe from living in the east. The truth is that so many of other tribes find it difficult to thrive in the east bcos of serious difference in standards of living.

  34. Must Ibo contributors resort to abusive language to make their points?

  35. Mr. SAN ,Governor and lawyer Fashola , you are expecting the Governor of Anambra state to call you on phone for taking the law into your hand . Sorry for you he will not do that because Igbos are not fools . Igbos go back to your place and develop it , I wonder who tells a Yoruba man that Igboland is not developed . Ok tell me a place in Igboland where people cross river on an improvised wooden (pako) bridge but there are thousands of it in the so-called developed state of Lagos . The problem is many of you have never stepped out of Lagos since you were born . Again the fact is that the real indigenes of Lagos do not talk most of the times only but all these parasites from Benin republic who beat corners (illegal aliens) to enter Lagos and some who migrated from Lagos neighboring states are the ones who insult Igbo people in Lagos . Some of you who had privilege to travel to ani Igbo could not express the level of the development they saw in South east . Igbos will not leave Lagos because this is Nigeria our country . No state Governor has right to tell anybody where to leave in this country . Fashola is lawyer by profession and he knows that .

  36. This is one of the reasons why Nigerians should give PDP credit because as a political party they will not allow any of their Governors to behave the way this ACN Fashola did . If Senator Ngige is still nursing the idea of contesting for Governorship in Anambra State in the year 2015 , he should looking for another political party because his present party hate Igbos especially Anambra State .
