A 40-year-old man, Kenneth Ekeh, was on Tuesday sentenced by an Ibadan Magistrates’ Court sitting at Iyaganku to 15 years imprisonment over N210,000 fraud.
Magistrate Kehinde Omotosho convicted Ekeh of three charges including obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.
Omotosho did not give the convict option of fine.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Sunday Ojeleye, said that the defendant was arraigned on a five-count charge which included obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.
Ojeleye said that Ekeh specialises in stealing gas cylinders and defrauding people, adding that he was arrested on Nov. 11, 2011.
The prosecutor told the court that the offences contravened sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
The defendant had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Satisfied with the evidence before her, Omotoso sentenced Ekeh to five years imprisonment with hard labour for each of the three charges, adding that the sentence would run concurrently. (NAN) Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Igbos at what they know how to do best. Robbers.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been better if all the thieves at federal levels or politician get a jail sentence like this, imagine 210k equals 15yrs imprisonment, then that of pension thief is supposed to be 300yrs but you will never see something like that happen in this country of ours, the pension thief! ceceilia ibru, the akingbolas, dimeji Bankole, odili etc will always walk free or gets a plea bargain.
ReplyDeletethat is the issue that trouble me most. how can some steal N210,000 (i'm not in support of the stealing) and go for 15 years jail term without an option of fine, whereas people who steal Millions and Billions of Naira and dollars are bailed with peanut and allowed to work free in society. I realize now, the law was made for the poor and under-privileged and not for the rich and powerful in the society. But I thought all are equal before the law, no! some are more equal than the others. A shame on our judicial system.
ReplyDeleteRubbish!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTukor and his son through fuel subsidy had stole billions of dollars and no one talks, now you want to jail the man because of N210,000 only.
In this Nigeria, we are in trouble.
