Popular Fuji musician and self-acclaimed Paramount King of Music (PK1st), Abbas Akande Obesere has been explaining why he dedicated his latest album,”Appreciation” to the chairman of telecommunications giant, Globacom, Chief Mike Adenuga.
Obesere who is not endorsed by the telecommunications giant as one of its brand ambassadors, said, he was inspired to do the album in honour of Adenuga, following his immense contributions towards the growth of the nation’s entertainment industry. He also wants to use his music to celebrate Adenuga’s resilience, business acumen, outstanding achievements and exemplary humility.
“What inspired me to record “Appreciation” was the desire to celebrate the great works of Adenuga. I have been hearing a lot about how he’s supporting the nation’s entertainment industry. I therefore felt that somebody like Adeguna should be celebrated,” he said.
He noted that, while the likes of Sunny Ade and Commander Ebeneezer Obey have respectively recorded albums in his honour, no emerging Fuji musician has done anything to celebrate the man. Consequently, he has taken it upon himself to immortalise the great works of Adenuga through his music.
“As Chairman of Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria(FUMAN), Otunba Adenuga has touched my constituency which is Fuji music. However, no Fuji musician has dedicated a song in celebration of his great achievements and that’s the reason I decided to do this. My brother, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma has benefitted immensely as a Glo Ambassador and that is a big boost for Fuji music. He has transformed people who believed their careers were over into super stars and was the first Nigerian to use Nigerian stars as brand Ambassadors,” he added.
“I never believed I could meet him one-on-one so easily. I was so excited the day I met him at an awards ceremony. He shook my hands and said, ‘Obesere, is this you?’ I was overwhelmed at his humility and unassuming nature. He’s been a great source of inspiration to me. I am calling on other Nigerians to emulate his good works,” he added. Obesere has since presented the album to Adenuga. The album contains three tracks, including “Otunba Mike Adenuga”, “Gbogbo Alujo(Great Warrior) and Hip-hop.”
