3 Die At Gov’s Ramadan Food Stampede

Three teenagers died Sunday night at the residence of Governor Aliyu Wamakko in Gawon Nama area of Sokoto, northwest Nigeria, while youths were struggling for Ramadan meal and clothing.
An eye witness at the scene of the incident said while the youths were struggling for food, a stampede occurred, claiming the lives of the three teenagers and leaving several others injured.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday night during the distribution of clothing and food to the youths by the governor at his residence.
Reports say hungry and unemployed of youths had converged on the residence of the governor to receive the items during the end of Ramadan fast break when the stampede happened.
A doctor on duty at the Accident and Emergency unit of Specialist Hospital Sokoto who didn’t want his name mentioned disclosed that the corpses of the victims have been removed and taken to the mortuary while eight other victims were receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the stampede.
Residents said some youths lost their lives during a similar incident in the 2012 Ramadan season.
