Traders at Gamboru market in Maiduguri, Borno State, Wednesday, rounded up six suspected Boko Haram gunmen and handed them over to soldiers of the Joint Task Force, JTF, eyewitnesses said.
This is even as suspected sect members, yesterday evening, detonated an Improvised Explosive Devise, EID, in the metropolis, targeting the patrol vehicle of the JTF, in spite of the emergency rule imposed on Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, and the total ban on the use of GSM and Thuraya Satellite cell phones in the troubled states.
The gunmen, according to eyewitnesses, entered the market and were spotted by a trader that saw weapons hidden under their garments.
A 36-year-old grocery merchant in Maiduguri, Babagana Aji, said: “It was a trader that alerted us when he saw them and we immediately trailed and rounded them up.
“We caught them before they could bring out their guns. After we succeeded in disarming them, we beat them blue and black before handing them over to the soldiers.”
Another trader, Sanusi Dantakai, said Gamboru traders had had it up their neck and were forced to take the bull by the horns.
He said: “This Gamboru market had suffered several attacks. Boko Haram has set it on fire twice and killed several traders and an orange vendor, among others.
“We are tired of the losses we incur at every attack carried out by Boko Haram. That was why we summoned courage to catch them today.”
Meanwhile, the sound of the explosion, which occurred at 6:30pm in the metropolis forced residents and traders to rush back to their houses to avoid being caught in the 6pm to 9pm curfew imposed on the state.
Due to the total network black out, spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa and the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jubrin, could not be reached for confirmation at the time of going to press. Each state creates the enviroment for the operation of the dare devils called Boko Haram. If there's unit among resident and every body is watchful, ready to reveal the activities of the criminal, Boko haram activities will not thrive. Bravo to those traders and the youths that are putting serious resistance against Boko Haram. Other state traders and youths should take a queu. All muslims should expose them for desecrating islam. If Islam is peace, certainly. boko Haram members are not Muslims. If you want to sharialize Nigeria it cannot be by violence but by manifesting the peace. You will only create an enviroment of bondage, as we are seeing in most muslim countries,
ReplyDeleteu see then...the Northern citizens can enforce order afterall...other youths and traders should join...
ReplyDeleteIt is clear that BH are not Nigerians , they are forces outside this country generated to destabilized the Govt. of GEJ, but unfortunately they have failed b/cos history shall re-write itself when d time comes that,a President GEJ flushed BH and it collaborators in this country were silent and mocked by the whole world
ReplyDeleteShame on Northern elders Forum (NEF)who spoke the voices of their called masters. Nigerians are knowing better now. The elders supported PDP when their son contests; if not they will support the party that presents a Fulani/hausa candidate. No wonder they swore to make Nigeria ungovernable.
ReplyDeleteAny reasonable Nigerian should tell president Jonathan Goodluck to expose those who are behind BOkO HARAM. It could be easily observed that their spokesman has not condemned the atrocities of these people and by extension people who arm them with sophisticated weapons have not been exposed. Behold the president is duty bound to tell the Nigerians who sponsor them. Let the sponsors be punished. GEJ: Listen if you have ears to hear with. See all the posts all these Hausa/Fulanis occupy both at national and party levels yet they are not satisfied. They want presidency by all means. Let the NEF remember that he who rides on a Tiger would be consumed by the same Tiger. Those who arm Boko Haram with sophisticated weapons would one day be answerable to the BOKO Harams.
For my friend Alhaji Tinubu and supporters if your eyes are not open by now you must be blind. For my non-hausa/Fulani northerners you must know by now that the term North is being invoked when they want your support and after that they will dump you. For Tinubu and company you will know by now that an average an Hausa/Fulani man has nothing like agreement in his dictionary, Awolowo, Zik, Akintola, Okpara, Clark, Enahoro, Eyo Etta, Unongo, Abiola, Dennis Osadebe, etc etc were all disappointed by reaching an agreement with these Hausa-Fulanis. Any reasonable person should be happy that for now a minority tribe is a president and all hands must be on deck to help him govern by giving him good advice. For my fellow minorities in Nigeria if they succeed in ousting GEJ from office then there is no hope for minority tribes in Nigeria to aspire to be president again.
This is a chance for all minority tribes in Nigeria to say no to "divide & rule tactics". in fact there is nothing like Northern, Western or eastern Nigeria now. We only have 36 states of Nigeria period. The NOrtherners manipulated the states and they have 19 states now yet they are not satisfied. They want the president and governors to feed both the elders and the youngs. Yet they want more states.
My fellow minority tribes in Nigeria you have the ace to say who is your president if you are united. We don't have to let these people use "divide & rule" method to cling to power again. For the Ibos there is nothing like Biafra now. Do not confuse yourselves.
Ref. "Shame on Northern Elders Forum" above. Well written. More of this type of advice to my fellow Nigerians. It means that if minority tribes in Nigeria are united with their votes, they would be the "King Makers" in Nigerian politics. Moreover, there is nothing like Northern, Eastern or Western regions now. All we have is 36 states of Nigeria and each Governor is answerable to their citizens. The Governors are not answerable to any of the Elders. Rather the Elders should wait to be asked for their advice if need be. I find it amusing that these Elders are trying to be ruling the country from their bed rooms.
ReplyDeleteCitizens of Nigeria:Listen if you have ears. The elders listen. Political harlots listen if you have ears for 20th century Nigeria is not like 19th century Nigeria. There is an old proverb that says :"A Dog that is destined to die by the SPIRITS does not hear the voice of its master".
Ref: "shame on Northern Elders Forum" above. Well written. These are elders who act like no man's business in the past. Some of them supported most of the past military coups. They have started again. They are saying that the "North" is marginalized. How?. Let's check: Shehu Shagari Buhari, IBB, Abacha, Abubakar etc all are of Hausa/Fulani stock with the exception of Gowon. The elders and some political figures hail them "God's Sent " when they were staging coups/counter coups.
ReplyDeleteMy advice to young politicians now is to be careful in whatever they say or do. Their actions will determine the future of this country. The politicians in the past invited the military boys who were formally happy with their military life of style. Make sure you do not invite them again by your actions. The politicians are now parading from one corner of the country to other without caring about the populace. To my young Politicians "You are warned" You have committed more sins than your predecessors without your knowing. The reason why it seems that the populace is calm is "they are tired of both the MILITARY and POLITICIANS and the so called ELDERS through out the country have disappointed them both in the past and present. The military boys seem to be calm not because the politicians are doing fine. They seem to be calm because the world leaders and African leaders are tired of military men in government.
It amuses me when Northern Elders said they are being marginalized yet they are "king makers politically and coup supporters in the immediate past.
The young politicians you are warned now or the same old Politicians, Elders, Chiefs, Obas, Allafins, Emirs, past Military Heads of State and their boys would lead you into a "ditch".
Remember these people would use the same civilians you are threading upon to act upon you.
Remember that the retired military guys know the politics of this country more than you and they control more Naira and dollars more than you and they have partners both in the military, civilians and elders. Above all they have some foreigners outside the country who will support them temporarily.
Let me be clear: We are talking about Abiola's mandate. Abiola in the past supported the military. Do you think that IBB & Abacha annulled the election for nothing? They were supported and advised by some dubious politicians and some dubious Elders and Chiefs through out the country.
IBB this is time for you to expose people who misadvised you.
My young politicians: "TO BE FORE WARNED IS TO BE FORE WARNED".
