An Ibadan Chief Magistrate, Mr Adams Adeshina, on Monday discharged a 21-year-old, Moruf Lawal, who was accused of raping a seven-year-old girl.
The court discharged Lawal based on the advice of the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) who said the accused had no case to answer based on the evidence before him.
Lawal had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge and the case file was sent to the DPP for legal advice.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Foluke Adedosu, had told the court that Lawal was arraigned on a one-count charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl.
She alleged that Lawal committed the crime in the Kosodo area of Ibadan on June 15, 2012, adding that he had taken the girl out of the sight of her parents and raped her. (NAN) Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
