An accident involving two vehicles on
the Berger Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday morning
reportedly claimed one life.
An eyewitness said the accident, which
involved a lorry and a bus loaded with bamboos and oranges respectively,
occurred at 3 am.
One of the bus passengers, who identified himself as Mr. Sunday, identified the woman suspected to be dead as his co-passenger.
Both drivers were nowhere to be found
when Saturday PUNCH visited the scene of the accident, but Sunday
insisted that the lorry driver was at fault.
He said the lorry was parked in the middle of the road without any caution sign to warn other drivers.
Sunday said, “The deceased and I were
passengers in the bus and we are both traders on our way to the Ketu
market from Ogbomoso in Oyo State.
“We got here at about 3 am, but our driver did not see the lorry stationed in the middle of the road on time, so we hit it.”
As at 6.15 am when our correspondent was
at the scene, the woman was still stuck in the vehicle, with no
emergency response in sight.
Our correspondent called the Lagos State
Medical emergency service line, 767, and an agent said a report about
the accident had earlier reached the service and that there was an
emergency rescue team on its way to the scene of the accident.
However, two police officers arrived on a motorcycle shortly after and promised to take charge of the situation.
