Old Number Plates, Driver's Licence Expire Sept 31, Says FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said on Wednesday that the old number plates and the old driver’s licence would expire by Sept. 31

The Sector Commander of the commission in Plateau, Mr Sunday Maku, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos.

Maku said that officers and men of the commission would commence enforcement by Oct. 1.

He called on motorists without driver’s licence to obtain one so as to stream into the changes taking place in the society.

He said that the new number plate would reduce criminal activities nationwide, adding that the new system had ``a tremendous advantage over the old ones’’.

“Before, it was possible for you to sell your car with your number plate; but nowadays, number plates are registered in the name of the owner.

“If you want to sell the car, you cannot sell the car with number plate, you have to remove the number plate, the new buyer will have to get his own number in his own name. So, with this system, it becomes very easy to trace criminals that are using number plates for criminal activities.``

He allayed the fears that the process of obtaining the new number plate was cumbersome, and urged those with old ones to come for revalidation. (NAN)

  2. ..does this guy knows what he is talking about? I have started the process of renewing my Driver's license in lagos since November 2012, up till now, the new one has not yet 'arrived' from Abuja! can we have sane people to run things in this country?

  3. The unavailabilty of new plate numbers and driving licences are delibrate tactics employed by FRSC to exploit NIgerians. If you want to get yours easily, then you have to part with extra money almost equal to the official price. Why will FRSC not made the machines available to all?, why do we need to travel to state headquarters to procure our licences and plate numbers if not to deliberately create artifical scarcity and therefore duped Nigerians. Make issuance easy first before putting dateline. God will judge all of you sooner than later. I have spoken!

  4. It is unfortunate that govt agencies with dubius characters could hold the masses to ransome. ACN/APC is busy fighting Jonathan over power. Who cares about the masses? Our destiny is in our hands. Nigerians should rise against wrong authoritarians. I expect the House of Reps to them to order.

  5. The new number plates should have been restricted to new vehicles and not extended to old ones already registered if FRSC is not out to exploit the members of the public. I hope their primary mandate is to ensure that lives are safe on our roads and not to mobilise revenue at all costs. Our educational institutions and others can as well ask for a change of old certificates for new ones at a higher price in the name of security. How absurd?

  6. Every Nigerian authority is known for no other thing but exploitation. You are are getting your pockets filled up by money produced from peoples' sweat and you still feel comfortable doing it. What is this crap about getting a new driver's license, what happened to the one we were using before, why do you people always have to make things so difficult for the population? You do all these things for your own personal interests and yet you make it sound like you have our security at heart. We are grossly bitter for these pains you put on us and I'm using this platform to warn you people to turn a new leaf and save the future of your own offspings. Remember, whatever goes around comes around. You will all reap the fruits of evil. You extract 10,000 or more from our pockets now at the expense of your various families. Generational curses come into play when a whole nation pronounces evil against the authority. Beware and revert every stupid law that you want to impose on us. find better things to do that will better the condition of Nigeria, not extortion

  7. When it suits them, they tell us of international best practices. In the UK, a driver's license is issued to you once till you are 70 years. After 70, you have to renew it yearly. Why can't they adopt that in Nigeria.
Check who has the monopoly of producing the new plate numbers and you will see the the top brass of FRSC have a big hand in it. It is simply to make themselves billionaires so that one day, they too will aspire to be jet owners, simplicita.
