A 43-year-old man, Lekan Adeoye, on Tuesday appeared before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating and inflicting injury on his 14-year-old child.
The hearing of the case was, however, unable to commence due to the absence of the prosecution witnesses and Chief Magistrate Durosaro Kehinde-Tijani adjourned the case to July 4.
The prosecutor, Insp Olufemi Eyiaromi, had told the court that the defendant was arraigned on a three-count charge of causing grievous harm, failing to provide necessities of life to his child and breach of peace.
Eyiaromi said that the defendant did caused grievous harm to the child without reasonable excuse and thereby endangered his life.
The prosecutor said that the incident happened on Feb. 1 at Idi-Iroko area of Ibadan at about 5.20 p.m.
He further said that the offences contravened section 335,339 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
The defendant had pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail.
He, however, failed to perfect the bail condition and had been in prison custody since Feb. 8. (NAN)
