The Inspector General of Police, IG, Mohammed Abubakar, has directed the Commissioner of Police in Edo to investigate the circumstances that led to the death of a student of the University of Benin.
The student, Ibrahim Momodu, was allegedly killed by a policeman on May 27
In a statement issued by Frank Mba, the Force’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, in Abuja on Saturday, the IG, stated that the police would establish the truth in the matter.
“The IG affirms that no stone will be left unturned in the quest for the truth and that the force will not condone any act of cover-up in the case,” it said.
The police boss stressed the force’s zero tolerance for any act that impinged on the fundamental rights of citizens, including the right to life and condoled with the family, friends and colleagues of the late Mr. Momodu.
He urged them to remain calm as efforts were being made to ensure quick dispensation of justice.
