Super Eagles midfield maestro, John Mikel Obi, has said the team crashed out of the ongoing Confederations Cup because the strikers were too wasteful.
Speaking after the team’s 3-0 loss to Spain in its last group game, Mikel declared that opportunities created by the team were too numerous but were simply not put to use.
“We came out to defeat the Spanish side and I think we may have even had the better possession against the World Champions but we simply did not take our chances and they took theirs, so we paid for our mistakes and are now heading out of the championship."
Mikel said he was not taking anything away from the Spaniards whom he describes as fantastic but simply wants Nigerian strikers to be more potent.
The Chelsea midfielder, who played the last two games with a slight fever said Nigeria will be back in Brazil next year from where the world will see the best of the reigning African champions.
Departure
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will depart Fortaleza for Sao Paolo en route Lagos on Monday morning. The team is expected to leave its Seara Praia Hotel in Fortaleza by 10:30am local time, which is 2:30pm Nigerian time for Sao Paolo from where it will link a flight to Johannesburg, South Africa and another to Lagos.
"Some of the foreign based players will not be part of the returning party as they jet out to either meet their clubs for pre-season tours or plan for new abodes in the coming season in Europe that begins in the August", said Ben Alaiya, the team's Media Officer. I'm proud of you - Mikel. I missed Victor Moses absence too.
ReplyDeleteAm mikel fan bf but am very surprise with the football mike play that day he over shadow iniester and savi but the useless striker s we are having did not allow his work to show...good work boy
ReplyDeleteMikel you infact beat my expectation,u played well and displayed your wealth of expirence in the game. However, that Ideye and musa guy needs to brace up allot.See how they were wasting chances, traping in ball in front of like 3 defenders hoping to perform miracle and score hiss.I miss our real strikers sah, kechi needs to refine that list of team again if he is to still be respected by us all.
ReplyDeleteI miss emenike and victor moses
ReplyDeleteIdeye & Musa were just shadow of themselves.......They are not fit at all. They need more exposure and professionalism.
ReplyDeleteWasteful and Useless strikers to say the list and i blame the coach for not including better strikers in the absence of Eminike and Moses. Mikel Indeed performed more than i had expected and showed pure class!!!
ReplyDeleteThe entire team played well, please don't be discourage, you can improve on your current performance. there should be no foreign coach
