Gay bill: Britain may suspend aid to Nigeria

British Prime Minister, David Cameron, on Friday said his government might consider cutting off aid to Nigeria over same sex marriage bill passed by the House

of Representatives on Thursday.  The Senate had passed its own version in November 2011.

Cameron spoke on a British Broadcasting Corporation programme monitored in Lagos.

He said he would take up the issue with President Goodluck Jonathan soon.
The prime minister said he would restate his government’s strong objection to the passage of the bill.

The prime minister was reacting to a question by a Nigerian resident in London, Bisi.

“When we meet with Nigerian politicians and leaders, we will be clear about those things we agreed on. We have to be clear where we disagree. We will make clear where we stand on those issues,” he said.

When asked whether Britain would consider stopping a projected 50 per cent increase in aid to Nigeria or cutting it outright, Cameron said, “Nothing is off the table. We need to have these conversations. We also have some very important objectives with Nigerians, for instance on how to deal with the appalling rates of poverty in Northern Nigeria, which are part of the problems confronting the country.”

Britain and some Western Nation had previously expressed opposition to the bill.
Cameron had in October 2011 threatened to cut off aid to countries which ban gay and lesbians.

  1. Which is better? To please man(Britain) or to please God? I had rather die pleasing God than gain the whole world pleasing men! You can keep your aid Britain but be rest assured we will not go against the Lord God of Israel! Nigeria is a Godly nation and we will resist any attempt to bring ungodly laws into our land. Welldone Senators and Honourable members of the house! God bless Nigeria. KJoe

  4. We reject abominations. Tell Britain to go to hell. They have never done us any good anyway. They refuse to give citizenship to nigerians born in Britain and are constantly deporting Nigerians everyday no matter how many years they have been in the country.

  5. Britain should mind their own business. Nigeria is a country of its own. British aid or not Nigeria will survive on its own. After all Britain has benefited much from Nigeria's oil and is still benefiting. They cannot force us to accept what we rejected. In fact they should give us more aids because they have exploited Nigeria for many years now. Talking about poverty in the North, it was Britain that caused what is happening in Nigeria today by that amalgamation of 1914. The different nations that made up Nigeria today would have been better off by now.

They are now being conditioned with aid because they no that the average Nigerian leader will collect money fro even a minimum wage earner. are we not suppose to be the one giving Britain aid? are we part of Britain's bill passage that they will now be a part of ours? Anyway Britain knows that with the stoppage our greedy and shameless leaders will consider it. Jonathan, Jonathan and all members of the Nigerian Govt, its not only wen you tell someone you are a fool, stupid, useless or dumb that you would have insulted the person. all actions of these foreign country is an insult to the bag of garbage we have as leaders. last time it was Bill Gates cancelling his visit, now its Britain stopping aid.

  17. When these western idiots preach human rights and democracy to us, they imagine we don't have brains. There are democratic prcedures of passing bills in d lower & upper houses. The ays must have been superior to d nays before any bills are passed. These are d same fools that said they colonised us to teach us administration & democracy. They only came to steal what we have to make their country better. They granted us their fake independence when they had stolen enough. Why don't you let us be if you really granted us independence. You talk about human rights, where will the rights of those majority who do not want such evil to be performed in d same environment where they live. Don't they deserve their fundamental human rights? Answer me OYIBO FOOLS!......chris.

  18. To hell with their ill gotten aid. This is a blatant case of Neocolonialism. Nigeria is an independent country with her own culture and morals. If Britain and her likes have lost morals to fight against evil acts like same sex practice which the two main religions are against, must they force it down the throat of sovereign nations that are left with some morals to fight this ugly act?. I beg to Hell again with their aid.

  20. You are daring God almighty who gave you the mouth to preach the gospel and instead of you to use it wisely, you are saying the impossible and the most abominable thing with it and encouraging it for that matter. Please keep your aid after all the youth are not benefiting from it. Who are you to dictate for Nigeria. go to hell with your aid and if you are not careful of what you say with your mouth, God will shot it up for you and do to you what He did to Sodom. If you pressurize our govt to fall in this sinful act, God will surely punish you. B careful and stay total clear from US if not curse shall follow you along with those that commit such abomination. If your father married a man, would you be alive to open that mouth to talk of aid. Why don't you marry a man since you encourage it and ask your daughter to marry a woman like her self. Bullshit!!!
