Customs uncovers poultry products in petroleum tanker



THE Federal Operations Unit (Zone 'A') of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, in  Lagos, has uncovered banned poultry products loaded in a petroleum tanker, a development that revealed a new mode of concealment.

Disclosing this in Lagos, Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Nuhu Isa Mahmud, described the mode of concealment as unimaginable and called for increased vigilance on the part of the officers.

Mahmud who conducted members of the Poultry Farmers Association, coldroom operators, processors, and the media round the seized products, said the zone had never recorded such mode of concealment before.


He lauded the management of Customs for its giant strides in staff motivation, remuneration, training and re-training as well as provision of enabling environment which triggered the zeal in officers for excellence.

He however urged members of the Poultry Farmers Association to support the campaign against the import of banned poultry products with a view to saving the economy from the activities of smugglers.

He acknowledged the Synergy and collaboration between the Association and the FOU 'A' which led to some of the massive seizures of poultry before his resumption.

The F O U boss reiterated his determinations to work assiduously towards eradicating smuggling of poultry and other prohibited goods into the Country, in line with the marching order of the Comptroller General of Customs.
