If reports from the official website of Covenant University are anything to go by, the institution plans to start a 3-semester academic session which includes Alpha, Omega and Third Semester.
The website quoted: “In our quest to actualize the Vision 1 of 10 in 10, Board of Regents has approved the adjustment of the university academic calendar in line with the practice of renowned world class universities.”
“To this end, a 3-semester academic session is part of our strategic plan to concretize our international collaborations and linkages as well as to further give full expression to our continuous drive for deepening quality and maintaining standard at the cutting-edge.”
Over the years, the university has established active partnership and collaboration with several universities across Europe and United States of America as well as Africa. Such relationship will only continue to prosper if and when we are able to accommodate the interest of partnering institutions.
The new structure will operate with effect from the 2013/2014 academic session, and will take the following order:
Alpha Semester (First Semester) – 4 August –30 November 2013
Omega Semester (Second Semester) – 5 January – 3 May 2014
Third Semester (Summer Semester) – 18 May- 26 July 2014
This arrangement provides a 5-week break after the Alpha semester as well as a 14-week summer holiday for Faculty and Students who do not wish to partake in the third semester window.
Meanwhile, the Governing Council of Nigeria Advancement Award has adjudged the university as the Best Performing Higher Institution of the year 2013 according to reports.
The award ceremony will take place at the International Conference Centre , Abuja on 20 June, 2013.
According to the Chairman, Screening /Award Committee, Barrister Tony Rex Ibaminabo, Covenant University emerged the best in the education category based on a nationwide poll conducted across Nigeria.
The University was selected ahead of five other finalists shortlisted for the awards. These Universities include: American University Nigeria (AUN), Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), University of Ilorin and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. You can't have 3 semesters. The word semester by its very nature can ONLY be divided into 2. Once you have 3 parts, it becomes Trimester. Someone in that university should look up the meaning of semester.
ReplyDeleteAll ways to make extra money.
ReplyDeletethey might know. But is the third semester free? that should be the question? hope this is not another means of sapping their students dry. I feel these so called Christian varsities should not be profit driven like the average private universities
ReplyDeleteDo they buy their academic materials cheaper, that you don,t want them to profit,?
Delete'3-Semester academic session'!!! Did I hear it said that this same Uni got an award as the best performing higher institution in Nigeria?! What a huge joke. A 3-part Semester? It seems English language is not on the Uni's list of courses. Perhaps we should give benefit of doubt for bad reporting.
ReplyDeleteThe NUC should come forcefully against this nonsense. What is third semester? Nigerian Universities have been collaborating with universities all over the world for millennial and they didn't change their programming. Covenant University should operate within the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
