Confederations Cup: Keshi blames injuries for Eagles ouster

The coach lamented injuries to key players.

Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, has blamed his team’s ouster from the ongoing Confederations Cup in Brazil on injuries to key players.

The team’s Media Officer, Ben Alaiya, quotes Keshi as saying injuries decimated the performance of the team at the tournament.

“I can’t imagine that my top striker, Emmanuel Emenike, will miss some of the goals that we missed and even Ogenyi Onazi was sorely missed, Victor Moses would have ruined any team here and of course several other players that should have been here could not make it due to injuries. Among them United States based Bright Dike,” the coach said.

Keshi then declared that he knows how to improve on the team’s performance, and appealed to Nigerians to forgive the team for the less than average performance at the tournament. He promised that the team will come good in the World Cup qualifiers.

“We want to come back here next year and make an impact. This is a dress rehearsal and I can assure that the Super Eagles will be among the top nations when the Brazil 2014 World Cup starts,” he said.

Keshi also revealed that he has fresh options for the national team when the team resumes for the final World Cup Qualifier against Malawi in September.

The coach said he is ready to qualify Nigeria for the first time for the African Nations championship meant for players playing in the local leagues of countries in Africa (CHAN).

“We would go back home take a few days rest and prepare for our CHAN qualifiers against Cote d’Ivoire in the coming days and hopefully we should be able to make it through,” he said.

  2. Keshi, no excuse please! Only a complete failure gives excuses. You knew that quite alright before going into the tournament. And I wonder what your training was all about 'cos you should have discovered during the training that you've got no striker at all. How will you go into such a tournament without an aggressive and fearless striker? As far as I'm concerned, Ideye was useless during throughout the matches. Yeah, I agree with you that the team missed Emenike. Work on your lapses please.

  3. Nigerians are soo unbelieveable cos all we knw hw 2 do is criticise, wen keshi won da ANC no body complained but see hw quick u are 2 judge nw. Keshi has already admitted da outing went bad due 2 injuries from key players or do u expect him 2 still invite da players wen he knws they can deliver due 2 injuries? As far as I'm concerned, da outin was cool cos we nw knw we can out play any intn'l team, all we shld pray 4 is we dnt get affected by injuries cos keshi is doin a good job cos I'v neva seen any country dominate spain like dat

  4. nigerians with over sabi, when keshi won nations cup we all sang his praise now that things appears below par we want to start unleashing on him
oga keshi OLUTAYO got your back. I see a future for us in your era, this owing particularly to your style of play. I also believe you completely about the injury problems. in fact, you actually surpassed my expectation.
but try not to be too adamant on some of the home based who appear to be too tactically deficient, but all in all you are simply the best hand we can get at the moment

U are right.....Dat's Naija fox 4u.But Keshi should work on the team.He should know what 2do by now,he should look for more experienced strikers dat are aggressive & professional.Ideye is a professional home-base(lol),he is too heavy on ground to act swiftly, dis is a sign of non-fitness.Ahmed Musa should add maturity to his game,he's not accurate & he lacks boldness.Echeijile is an asset,he really try in the tournament.
