The Clifford-Wilson Family of Koluama 1 community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Monday said their son, Judah, who was among the eight persons killed in the council by gunmen, was a victim of a set-up.
The head of the family, Mr. Joseph Wilson, in a statement made available to our correspondent, said Judah was on a peace mission in company with other youths in Lobia community when they were ambushed by gunmen.
Wilson explained that Judah was contacted by one Mr. West, the Chief Security Officer of the community, to help in resolving a lingering youth leadership tussle.
"Immediately they arrived the community and were trying to anchor their boat, armed men opened fire on late Judah, Esau and three others," he said.
The statement said, "We, the Wilson family, want to state that the reported involvement of late Judah Benaibi Wilson and four others in a gang fight is wrong and untrue. We urge the security agents to rise up to their duties and fish out the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
"The security agents should review the reported facts surrounding the Saturday killing at Lobia Community main town.To us,who are not security personnel,it appeared that the murdered youths were set up for armbush by Mr. West, the Chief Security Officer of the Lobia community and his cohorts.
"After the incident, both Mr. West, the Chief Security Officer and boat driver, arrived in Yenagoa and went into hiding from families of those killed. They did not deem it fit to contact anyone on the details of what transpired. It is indeed a set up.
"We urge the security agents to call on Mr. West to come out of his hiding place and give account on what transpired, because he invited Late Judah and others to their untimely dead.
"Two corpses out of five Persons shot dead were reportedly buried in a shallow grave in the bush near the Lobia community like they did to the killed 12 policemen."
