The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar yesterday said the removal of roadblocks from the nation’s highways has reduced corruption in the Nigeria Police Force in the past one year after he assumed office.
Abubakar disclosed this during an interaction session at a ‘One Day Roundtable and Dinner’ organized by a non -governmental organization, CLEEN Foundation to mark the post-one year of his being in office.
Opining on the removal of roadblocks from highways across the country, Abubakar said it has drastically reduced accidental discharges and eliminated the N20 syndrome, as well as harassment of road users.
Abubakar said: “The withdrawal of police roadblocks has reduced 80 per cent corruption in the Nigeria Police These roadblocks were centres of corruption, which dented the image of the Force. With the removal of the roadblocks, the accidental discharge, harassment and human rights abuse have reduced as well.
“Measures are put in place for the past one year have led to drastic reduction in complaints against members of the Force, especially extra-judicious killings and N20 syndrome.
“In improving police image and enforcement of fundamental human rights, there has been increased media presence through proactive response to media and public enquiry, greater synergy between police and other security agencies.”

Mr IG, do you travel on Nigeria's highways at all? Which roadblocks were removed? Your leutnants must be feeding you falsehoods because your men are still very much on our highways shamelessly extorting money from road users especially commercial drivers. Wake up from your slumber & get the facts right before making such spurious claims.
ReplyDeleteIt appears the IG is not in Nigeria. Why is the IG talking about 80% reduction in Police corruption through removal of roadblocks? As far as I know, roadblocks are still all around us in the south-south. CLEEN Foundation should ensure that criminals are not rewarded with awards. I am confident that members of CLEEN Foundation do not believe the IG's story.
ReplyDeleteWhy is the IG economical about the true state of the Nigerian Police Force? Whose benefit is the IG serving by lying to the whole world? My dear IG, if you have nothing good to say, it is better to keep quiet rather than engage in falsehood.
If you go between ijebu ode and benin express road you will still see them collecting money they are back on the road and onitsha to owerri you still see them collecting money again why can't these officers be caught and dismissed to teach others lessons of their life
ReplyDeleteYes it appears they are not listening to the IGP because he is making efforts to sanitise the force but most of them are back and extorting motorist of their money again especially when you are travelling to the eastern part of the country
ReplyDeleteIG should visit Ugheli-Imbiama-Patani axis; Inspector Charles of Patani Police Division argued that their main such of income is Roadblocks. That is what they use in settling their DPO daily.
ReplyDeleteI am serious besides, you can reach me for details if you are interested though, Police Ogas wouldn't because, police kingpins are aware of the ongoing massive extortion from helpless innocent Nigerians.
Go to Obieh along PH Aba expressway and see the high level of official extortion going on among the disgraceful Nigeria police.
All DPOs are aware of the extortion going on within their jurisdictions belief me. Nigeria is crippling because Police are killing us; they are not disciplined and these are the people that ought to live above reproach but very unfortunate.
IG should wake up and stop blabbing to Nigerians who pay their Salaries; buy their guns and other kits; pay for their accommodation; the uniform they put on; their welfare, etc with their taxes.
Very unfortunate we haven't got a government that would help us from Police intimidation in this country.
You all have said it.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Sqaudron 16 Ogere or what do they call them self?, operating between ogere toll gate and Ijebu Ode in batch of not less than 5 patrol teams
Apart from road blocks, they have several other dubious and corrupt way of extorting money, such as framing up innocent people, rounding up people in residential areas at 9 - 10 pm and charging them for wandering. You cant even count all their tactics, they are worst than armed robbers and they make more than them in a seemingly unchallenging way
Oga at the top, your road-blocks are back, that's all.
ReplyDeleteSomeone essentially help to make critically posts I might state.
