Aljazeera
Stream team spoke to Nobel Laurete, Wole Soyinka, presidential spokesperson,
Doyin Okupe, publisher of news website SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore and
Aljazeera reporter, Yvonne Ndege, during Wednesday’s edition of the programme
titled “Bringing Down Boko Haram”.
The initial
rounds of questions elicited some form of halting reactions from Mr. Okupe (who
was pressed on how the government was dealing with a maniacal group of radical ideologists
who find no qualms killing innocent people).
Mr.
Sowore pounded on Mr. Okupe’s faltering response when the question got
back to
him, and accused Mr. Okupe of not knowing what to say because the
underlining
problem of Boko Haram is corruption and poor leadership; and they
were benefiting from those and can therefore not combat Boko Haram.
“That
is why Doyin Okupe, when he was talking, didn’t even know where it was coming
from. Because that is how they want it…(paraphrased).
Mr. Okupe
hit back at Mr. Sowore, who has remained a thorn at the side of the government,
telling the panel that “Sometimes one cannot help but be ashamed how some
studio editors, like Sowore, castigate their own government and leaders from
the comfort of their …. bases (paraphrased)
