One person died while three workers were trapped as four-storey building under construction at Liverpool Estate in Ijegun, Lagos collapsed.
At press time, rescue operation by officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency was on-going, as more persons were believed to have been trapped in the building.
It was gathered that the building was already marked for demolition by Town Planning authorities for contravening the building by-laws of the state.
Chairman, Amuwo Odofin Building Collapse Prevention Guild, Mr Otuoke Augustine, an architect, who was at the site, appealed to builders and developers to desist from patronizing quacks and to cooperate with the government and the guild to prevent further collapse, by complying with the 2010 Lagos State Building Law.
He also called on relevant authorities to carry-out a forensic analysis of the structural members and components of the building to determine the cause of the collapse.
Efforts to interview men of the Lagos State Building Control Agency at the site proved abortive as they parried all questions asked them, and refused any comment by referring Vanguard to the Commissioner for Physical Planning.
